Why is this news? And why did the Tribune even bother posting this story?
Whenever a random act of violence does take place that deserves a public discussion forum, the Tribune usually disables the ability to comment on such items. Yet, they post stories, such as the above, that have little bearing on anything and are of little or no consequence.
But at the same time.... we can't place the lack of education and occupational skills solely on the government or school system. The underlying problem is that the majority of Bahamians don't value an education. Foreign students (especially Haitians) come to the Bahamas and take advantage of our educational system. Many of them are usually head-boy or head-girl..... acquire scholastic achievements..... and move on to become productive citizens.
I challenge you to talk with any educator, and they will assure you that most of our Bahamian boys and girls in the public school system have little interest in academics. Many of them are coming from broken homes where values, hardwork and honesty are absent. An education system can only fasilitate the values taught at home. A teacher cannot force an individual to learn. They can only teach the student and point the student in the right direction. But its ultimately up to the pupil to enhance his/her knowledge.
Furthermore..... this is twentieth century. Education is any and everywhere. Its basically at everyone's finger tips. If someone wishes to educate himself, it's as easy as picking up a book and studying. Parents are the ones who must take a more proactive role in helping to educate their children. Jamaican and Haitian parents are doing it. Why aren't we???
Don't get me wrong..... the government does deserve some blame...... but not all. The Bahamian government has failed to keep our educated, bright minds in the Bahamas! They have failed at creating advanced employment opportunities for our educated citizens. As a result, many of them have taken their talents globally; while the Bahamas (in need of their skills) suffers the loss.
But it is ultimately up to the people of the Bahamas to change the Bahamas. Pointing fingers and blaming the government won't do any of us any good.
Wow. What a shame. When are Bahmians going to wake up and take action??? The citizens of the Bahamas need to quickly organize a consortium of honest, bright-minded, honorable men and women willing to establish a new political party.
We can't continue voting for this bush-league, banana republic government. Both the FNM and PLP have brought our country to ruins. It's time for the people to execute their power of democracy and take our country back from these incompetent liars and thieves.
In an odd way I truly sympathize with Obie Wilchcombe.
As minister of tourism I understand that he's attempting to boost our tourism market. But the underlying problem still remains the same........ There are too many critical issues stifling our country that our government has proven powerless and unwilling to solve.
The tourism market will not thrive in the midst of this current crime crisis. BEC is still unable to sustain a dependable electrical grid. And the cost of living in the Bahamas is simply not competitive enough to lure significant investment. The Bahamas is currently a rudderless, powerless ship floating adrift being led by an incompetent, hapless captain and crew.
You're blaming God for the state of the Bahamas???? Seriously??? It's our blatant disregard and disobedience towards his teachings that has our country in this current state of chaos!
Don't blame God. He gave all of us the gift of choice! The problem is...... the majority of Bahamians make poor choices!
Listen..... I understand that finger pointing is a popular tactic used in politics. But it's usually only used during the campaigning process...... and as we can all tell....... we are far removed from the last general election campaign.
The PLP is now in power and has been for three years! And since then they have done absolutley nothing but point fingers at the previous government while attempting to dodge their own scandals! What happened to all those promises Perry and his PLP made to the Bahamian people??? Why aren't they being addressed??? Why isn't Frankie Wilson talking about them???
We all know that the electorate were fed up with the FNM government and voted them out! That's old news! The PLP is now in the drivers seat and its past time for them to offer the Bahamian public more than just excuses and finger pointing! Get on with the business of governing the country and fulfilling all the empty promises you made!! Stop diverting the attention away from your own incompetence and failures by blaming the FNM!!
Don't get angry at the man for telling the truth! You can attempt to pass blame all you want. The truth is.... it's both government's fault. The entire Bahamas including the people are a failure! Bottom line!
It's not the Chinese fault. Bahamar in conjunction with HAI were the ones who came begging the Chinese for money after Bahamar's initial partners went bankrupt and pulled out. The Chinese didn't really want to get involved with Bahamar but did it anyway as a favor to HAI and the Bahamas because HAI moved the Bahamian embassy out of Tiawan and placed it in China.
Everyone seems upset with the Chinese...... but if it weren't for them, Bahamar would be in an even worst predicament. In other words..... Bahamar would have no partners at all! Who else would be willing to take on a 3 billion dollar debt???
