As a non-elite I can only imagine how deep this corruption rabbit hole goes. Those that benefit from these corrupt practices probably think they are entitled somehow, more deserving in some way than the general public. As one of the commentators stated this practice probably exist in other government owned companies and government agencies such as NIB. As the president of the World Bank said Corruption is “Public Enemy Number One” in Developing Countries. Let's root it out at all cost!

As a descendent of and with many family and friends living in the family island I wish the Chamber would stop telling us what we already know. Of course we cannot sustain another major hurricane impact, of course the family island economies are depressed, of course there is a "brain drain". It has been this way for decades. I would expect the Chamber to offer solutions, seek out investors and the like. Repeating what we already know seems to be a waste of time and resources.

It's quite simple, the PLP is terrified! If they did nothing they have nothing to fear. The fact that no charges made against Dion Smith proves that there is no witch hunt.

It seems Wayne Munroe will have a windfall defending all these PLP's, that is of course if they pay!!

These PLP's seemingly dont understand the meaning of a witch hunt. They seem to be using it daily nowadays!! I guess they need to find an excuse no matter how shallow and week

One cable fault causing an island wide blackout? Wow, what kind of distribution system do we have? It looks like in addition to generation capacity issues there are transmission and distribution system issues too. What in the world were the previous engineering and management folks doing? Did ever know what they were doing? One cable fault causing an island wide blackout is tantamount to a guest at Atlantis plugging in a faulty hair dryer in one of the guest rooms and causing the whole resort to loose power. Ridiculous. They shouldn't even admit that. Blame it on something else more substantial.

I am not surprised at the projected level of the budget deficit. When you have the likes of Jerome Fitzgerald and Shane Gibson in cabinet advising the PM on such matters its no wonder we have these problems. I have no idea what Shane's qualifications are, what a low level union boss? And Jerome, this guy's business failed miserably and he lost his house on PI. These are the kind of people that we given power to run this country and the now we see the result. Incompetence, nepotism and corruption = a broke country. I hope this new crew is a little better!

Perry looks so tired in that photo!!

Craig says...

With all due respect to you sir, but folks like you would probably believe a PLP MP if he said the sky was yellow. Come on, are you that blind? These people are corrupt, self interested, incompetent and list goes on. Like one of the commentators said, this incident is just tip of the iceberg. These people are in office to get rich!

Sometimes it seems that all you have to do to get elected is throw a good party or parties, have motorcades that hold up traffic during the middle of the week, promise pie in the sky things, i.e. free electricity. Bahamian voters seems so gullible. Can't they see that these politicians are just elites using the masses for their own ends. Working them up into a frenzy, promising them the stars but delivering dirt, just to get their votes. Wake up Bahamas!!
