How about some facts for a change.Citizens from the Caricom nations, are being allowed in with no testing.Thats Jamaica,Haiti,Belieze,Tobago and a list of other nations with no testing or hospitals that you or I would choose to go to if we were sick. The Covid seed in Grand Bahama was a Haitian undocumented individual that no one knows how he got into the country. The tourists are all following the rules that the Government laid out.Until we get a handle on the influx of Chinese,Haitians,Caricom residents, and Bahamians shopping in Florida and if staying less than 72 hours need no testing to renter Bahamaland. Can this government please make some logical restrictions that are enforced on everyone, every color, every nationality, every economic level.Just this latest blunder will take 14 more days to see the real results of letting people renter with no testing. Why would anyone let their residents take the ferry to Florida,go to two dozen crowded stores, touch a thousand surfaces, sleep in houses with many relatives, if they weren’t purposely trying to infect the whole of the Bahamian Population??
The government is allowing Caricom nations in with no testing, that’s Jamaica,Tobago,Trinidad,Haiti, and many more. These countries have no reporting,no hospital stats no idea how many cases they have.We have hundreds of thousands Haitians in our country and no one knows how they got here.Plus the government is allowing Chinese immigrate here unchecked and they are worried about US tourists that rarely mix with our Bahamian population?
I would just like to say this make three complete reversals by the Tourism Ministry on the testing question.Businesses need consistency to plan to make their business work.No one,no one can trust the Bahamian Government for anything, absolutely no credibility.
I feel bad for the Minister of Tourism. He knows this will kill business and I understand that there is a lot of pressure on him and the entire administration. He will be known as the Minister of No Tourism. The tests are very expensive and not reliable. If this government continues along these lines the everyday Bahamian will be unable to feed their family and 80% of businesses in the Bahamas will cease to exist. These people saying the US tourist will just have to pay up and they will come here just like before are dead wrong. The people saying that are government employees that have never missed a paycheck.Bahamians believe that every American is rich, compared to the average Bahamian maybe, but they are not stupid.Bahamas just raised the taxes on rentals, clearing in fees, and every thing a tourist would use.People are not going to spend $800 for a family of 4 to test,$500 in fuel, thousands for a cruise to go to a place that is not competitive in price or value with any other destination.
Calling Americans “morons” and keeping the Bahamian economy shut down will do more damage to Bahamians than any disease.I for one give a lot of credit to the Minister of Tourism for recognizing reality. With Dorian and the Tourist shutdown the Bahamas is in trouble.A lot of these bloggers are not Bahamians that have lost their jobs and only want to provide for their families. If the Bahamas keeps borrowing because there is no economy the government will not be able to function.
Provide all Immigration Officers a hand held electronic temperature sensor that can be simply pointed at a tourist and is very effective with no false positives and gives you more usable information than the existing tests in a reliable result.Just a trip to a Lab or Doctors office in the US provides more risk than most people ever face in their normal day.Don’t forget it could take uup to 2 weeks for symptoms to appear.
I believe the Bahamas has represented that less than 100 people have been exposed to the virus. Why not quarantine the sick and exposed and let the other 99.9% be free!
I must say the statement from the Minister of Tourism speaks volumes. He is 100% correct on both the testing question and the quarantine of tourists for 14 days. With those two restrictions eliminated the Tourist Industry in the Bahamas has been given a chance to survive. The loss of the economy will kill more people than the Corona 19 ever will.Time is of the essence! The boating season is here and so is the hurricane season. For GBI there are plenty of rental houses with docks and hotels with marinas that could be opened immediately and just have the tourists confined to the property. There are many hotels that can not survive if you don’t allow them to open for the summer season. There is no taking it back if you starve these businesses out of exsistance.Thank you,I think we are headed in the right direction..
