I fear you are spot on. Wonder who are the other 40 sucker countries? On the other hand, the laugh could be on the IMF if the Central Bank web page functions like most things Bahamas government!
Why the h e double l are we borrowing more money when the reason VAT was forced upon us was because we have too many debts? This eejit government has no possible idea how much the current street lights costs us annually. What is the annual interest on the loan? BEC admits to $450 million debt. Next they will attempt to implement quantitative easing! All the talk of RRB bonds and SPV's is enough to give you the willies. Just when you think things couldn't get any worse they come up with this fool announcement. No doubt a special friend will get the light contract......
They appear to be taking a page from the U.S. penchant for fining everything that moves. It would appear that all the POWERS that be are concerned about is the almighty dollar and how much they can squeeze out of those trying to make a living. What is this ridiculous fine going to do to help this "roll-out". It is good thing they don't try to fine BEC and Bahamasair (know it's not a utility) LOL!!!
All of these hoops our Government Ministers and A.G. have been running, or even flying, to jump through to ensure compliance with the foreign regulators is going to have a severe impact on business, if it has not already started. It is not just the realtors, lawyers and banks, missing out, lack of real estate sales will have a trickle down effect on the entire economy. It is a rather dire situation. Many operations are having a grim holiday season.
