We all know this is a done deal, just like Disney. The rest is all theatre and show to make gullible people believe they are following due process. Only an idiot can believe it is wise to have a private island of the cruise ships right downtown, you may as well tell Bay street give up.
Am sure this is all great news, but what is the plan long term. Is every one of our islands going to be built upon. When i was a kid you could go to North Exuma and see a few homes on Highbourne and Normans, then not much (some small ones on other islands). Now every single island has a home, and each one has many large yachts outside. Harbour Island has been too expensive for Bahamians for a while, same with the Abaco cays, more and more areas in NP are too expensive for us. When does it stop? I am sure the real estate agents are happy as they are making plenty, but my kids will not be able to see half of The Bahamas i was able to, and their kids even less. We need to work out how this economy will work for all rather then benefitting a few.
Herein lies a big problem, and one Government needs to deal with. They can't just demolish the homes if there is nowhere for people to live. They should come up with a sensible solution that works for all. Also if there are illegals then deal with that issue. As a note whilst i feel for the lady in this article, why in the world would you have 6 kids if you can't afford to look after them. At some point people need to realize having that many children will mean you will never have enough (you could earn $100,000 and still struggle with 6 kids).
Thats all good, but how are we to pay for these hospitals. Will each need their own MRI and surgical ward, with the specialists that are therefore needed? In reality small clinics to deal with the minor things and a good airlift for major items to either Nassau or Freeport. Even building the clinics will be costly, as how do you justify having at least one doctor and nurse on an island with 50 people on it?
Yup its ridiculous, that it is cheaper as a Bahamian to go to the US then to another Bahamian island. I can do a rapid test for $20 here, go to the US, and there get a full test for free to get back. That's saving me $130-150 to spend shopping as the flights are about the same and accommodation cheaper in the US.
From when this started Government brought in laws to force people to wear masks and social distance. Then they selectively enforced these laws. Then cases go up an they have curfews, close restaurants and maybe even have lockdowns, which affect those who followed the rules more then those who don't. Its not hard, just enforce the laws. have people at the beaches that do this. Luckily for Government the weather as always won't be good this weekend, so not many will be at the beach (well Friday for sure).
All they will do is pass the law in parliament but not in senate so it won't be gazetted, and thereby not be a law. They will do this just before the election so they can say look we did it, but then have no intention of actually implementing it whoever wins (and PLP and no plans to either).
