So why not be honest with people and say that you the 8% was to get people to subscribe and then you would reduce.

Dawes says...

Fully agree with the proposal

Dawes says...

You have said this many times over the last few months, and many times i ask what is your proposal for the huge numbers of unemployed people this will create. We can not turn our economy away from tourism quick enough to avoid huge unemployment. So what is your proposal? Do we put VAT to 25%, bring in income tax and many other taxes to fund the necessary social services needed to help 10-100,000's of Bahamians who will need help? And please don't say open to Europe and Canada, those number of tourists will not be enough.

Dawes says...

From what i remember Bahamasair has received over $500 million in subsidies from the Government (and this was over 10 years ago so no doubt is more). Based on the size of the US economy this would be the equivalent to a US carrier being given almost $900 billion. Please show me where this is happening? Yes companies may need some subsidizing, but not to the amount the SOE here need. The rest is just a plea to not have to pay the market price for a ticket and expect others to pick up the tab, however no doubt his letter writer will also complain about the amount in Tax they have to pay, without realizing that part of the reason is so Government can fund these SOE.

If thats the case then test when people are at the airport and make sure they do not see anyone until the results come back. Or just ban tourism until a vaccine. Sure most of us will lose our jobs but thats a price worth paying.

Dawes says...

What is to stop someone getting it after they have the test as they can have the test within 10 days of travelling?

Dawes says...

Well Atlantis may as well join others and close until October, and many local businesses may as well start closing their doors for good.

Dawes says...

Taxes won't go up until after the next election. Then whoever wins will have to put them up. If FNM they will say no choice. If PLP they will say to pay off bad decisions FNM made.

Once we take the statue down we should not put up a new one until that persons full history has been explored. This would include all the good and bad they did. Perhaps even having a list of their wealth so we can work out if they obtained any from illegal ways. If no one can be found without a blemish on their record we should leave the plinth empty.
