Well they also give us pre-clearance and 80-90% of the tourists that we rely upon to do anything. But other then that what have they given us? Wait of course the fact that should any of our fishermen or boaters go missing their Coast Guard will help look for them. But otherwise what have they given us? The above are a couple easily to think of items. I am sure there are many other but this writer takes those for granted and doesn't realise they could all stop should the US want.

Another waste of money. Why would an island of 50 people (or 32) need a court? Most of these buildings are a waste of money.

Now this is one of those items which i personally feel is a waste of money. Will probably never be filled and will just be allowed to be run down. Hope i am wrong.

Most of these are needed though. Or would it be better for us all to sit in traffic all day. At least something is being done. There is a lot to criticise this Government on, but these road projects won't be one of them.

Every Government is the same. Before they come to power they always say that business license needs to change. Then they get to power and say we thinking about it, but not yet. Then they lose power and back to square one. Pretty much the same for many other problems this country faces. I am always amazed at how successive Government have managed to screw up a country, which is probably best placed, to be one of the most successful small nations in the world. Yes we are doing better then many others, but we could be so much better and we are letting our most vulnerable members of society down all the time whilst paying lip service to their needs each election.

Dawes says...

Most of the benefits are items that should be taught in School. What we really should do is fix our education ministry and then many of the issues should go away. All mandatory national service will do is create more issues. What would a kid who gets a scholarship to go away do? Would they be given an exemption, if so wouldn't that mean this services would just be for those who can't afford to get off the island at 18.

Complete incompetence From BPL and Government for the last 40-50 years. Let someone else run it as this is a joke. Only a month ago BPL were saying no load shedding and now this. If its due to routine maintenance then this would have been known a month ago. Also if it is due to maintenance then why do it once the weather begins to get hotter. Schedule those during the down months. But i guess we can't expect anything smart from a company that whilst even charging some of the highest rates in the world can't keep the power on for long. Useless.

Only if we do a 5 year trial of undocumented lawyers being allowed to work. We can then see if Mr. Smith changes his mind. I have no problem with immigration, but it must be legal. The idea that you are found to be here illegally and then left to carry on is retarded. May as well have no immigration department then.

Of course it needs to change, they both look the same. I'll have to take the Ministers word that the taxi plate change is cheaper as i would have thought there were less self drives (though maybe not as i am sure there is some scam going on with all the SD cars i now see).

You have to laugh. The economy has been doing so well that there is no need to change anything. At least that's what you basically hear every time Government tries to change a law in the hope of growing the economy. The fact of the matter is The Bahamian economy has not been working for a while (at least since the last recession, probably before that), and something needs to change. Yeah sure it works for the lawyers, accountants etc, but for the average person it is not. Wages have not really increased in years, and if there was any increase, the increase in taxes alone makes them decrease (and the cost of living increase makes it even worse). But no lets always complain about things that may just help Bahamian people. Something has to change as we can't keep going on this slow downward spiral (a 2% GDP increase is great, as long as the population doesn't grow by more).
