Good news if it works out, but lets not beat about the bush. This took probably $20 million of our dollars to occur, as well as what other incentives they give going forward. Guess the buyer will hope they've weeded out the bad worker with the separation package.
Maybe Government shouldn't give all these tax concessions to huge corporations that come here. That would fund the overtime. Anyway as has already been mentioned if they work overtime they should be paid overtime. Normally i do not side with the union, but on this they are right and if i was them i would work my shift and go.
How? Bahamians can't compete with the foreign entities. They are able to borrow at substantially lower interest rates, they have our government bend over and give them every exemption they can think of. A Bahamian has to pay extortionate rates to local banks to borrow, and the government will expect them to pay duty, real property, VAT, and all the other taxes which his foreign owned competitor won't have to. The Bahamian doesn't have a chance.
The job of that department in the State department is to report on countries outside the US. There are other areas of Government which report on what happens in the US.
Don't often agree with Birdie but he is right. There has been a lot of talk about amazing things that will happen in Ragged but still nothing much has happened. Unfortunately this is the same as a lot of things the PM has said. All sounds good and then a year later still nothing has changed.
Can Bahamian Companies get this deal? I am sure many of them would love to not pay real property, business license, duty and all the other taxes they currently pay. After all they do employ Bahamians. Also let them bring in fuel free of tax for use on their companies vans, trucks, cars and boats? No thought not.
