I fully agree with the letter writer. There should be some enforcement on these establishments. When outside my house i can hear a nightclub going, and i wonder how bad it must be for those living next to it, and why people need it to be that loud. Unfortunately from the sounds of it, nothing will happen, and will only continue to get worse. Chances are someone you have already spoken to is involved with the club and can make sure they can continue.
Tomorrows article, "We must make travel to family islands more affordable". Family island airports (especially on tier 2 and further) should be quite easy to do. Give someone a 40 year lease to build an airport for you that must have certain facilities. The airport doesn't need to be overly large as most flights only carry a small number of people. Whoever builds it can have the sole restaurant/bar and all other concessions etc to make their money back. And the airport charges $5 total a ticket which is used at the airport. What the above will do is build large airports, not used that often and not maintained, all because it looks good in the photo opportunity.
When will Government ever understand, that if they make doing business easier there will be a larger economy and they in turn will get more money. If people are doing wrong then have an audit team that goes through the companies books and make an example out of them. But to make it harder for all businesses to do business will just drive more and more of them to the black market.
They both are responsible, as well as the previous Governments from around 2000 when BPL first started to make a loss. And the Governments from before that when BPL was unable to and still is unable to generate enough power on a consistent basis for people to not be without power weekly.
Its OK, Government will just increase our contributions to cover any shortage. No change will ever come on the expense side, either at NIB or any other Government entity.
And what happened to the owner of the establishment? Nothing i bet, in fact if you raid again today he/she probably has more illegals there. Until we deal with those who employee illegals, there will always be a problem.
