Two quick thoughts:

1. Does anyone know why the bankruptcy Chapter 11 filing is in US court? And why the suit against China State is in the UK High Court? Seems like an awfully smart move in terms of putting China State under a lot of scrutiny on the world stage, but I'm sure there are other reasons.

2. Will the Bahamas government now see how stupid it was to borrow untold millions from the Chinese? Will they finally now understand that the Chinese were not acting out of the goodness of their hearts and that "gifts" often come with a hell of a lot of strings attached?

Will we ever learn? (Ok, that was 3 thoughts....)

"Gross national happiness" is what got us into this mess to begin with. People spending money they don't have to do things they can't afford to make them happy without any regard for fiscal responsibility during a worldwide recession and wonton spending and poor decisions.

How, pray tell, does Mr. Wilchcombe suggest we accomplish "happy" when the nation is suffering under the very government he represents. Maybe he'll send us all off on all-expense paid tourism junkets around the world....

Leverage? Surely you jest! This is money OWED by the Bahamas government to BahaMar -- and it's well overdue. They are lucky not to have to pay hefty interest charges. No leverage -- just pay the bill as owed. These clowns really have a very poor sense of the reality that the rest of us live in.

Why are we so tolerant of this miscreant? He continues to thumb his nose at us and our laws. Why is he not in jail for contempt? Let's see what happens if one of us doesn't show up for our court appearance? Can you say arrest warrant?

duppy has a very good point -- since when are nurses in charge of the ambulances? What about the crew assigned to the ambulance? I don't see where they have been disciplined, or for that matter the MOH official in Abaco responsible for that department.

I do hope this little girl has learned something about responsibility and the consequences of her actions. She doesn't sound very contrite, and it's a shame her self-professed "artistic and creative" skills aren't being put to better use instead of being self-indugent and immature.

Thank goodness no one desperately needed that ambulance while it was being used as a party limo.

Economist, I couldn't agree more! Such stupid and wasteful idea. Bahamasair should be scrapped, sold or otherwise disbanded and let free enterprise reign. Bahamasair has NEVER turned a profit EVER. Time for it to go. I suspect this expansion of new planes is so as jobs will be available for the hundreds of BEC workers to soon be made redundant with the new managment company coming in. It's more money being spent (and not accounted for) -- these aren't new planes, but used planes that have already lived a hard life!

Banker, I noticed that too, but did you also see that this plane was previously registered in the Bahamas as a private aircraft -- though sold some 11 years ago to the current owner. That explains why it is in the Bahamas, but I am also wondering if this wasn't a "rogue charter", as if you look at previous flight plans filed by this aircraft, the routes are seemingly random and not a consistent route that you might expect a non-charter outfit to take.

I do hope the BCAA takes note of this and really clamps down on the illegal charters. Way too many tourists are getting suckered in by accepting the lower rates offered by the rogue charters (who aren't paying maintenance, re-certifications, or insurance), instead of taking the properly registered charter companies who have taken the time and expense of operating legally.

There was some talk that this aircraft ran out of fuel -- which, I suppose is "engine trouble", but all the same, I'm glad everyone survived the ditching.

At least one of them is seeing sense. Now the rest of the PLP should be impeached for corruption, lack of transparency, incompetence and poor governance. The Bahamas cannot survive until 2017 with this corrupt and ineffective government.

I'm very serious, WiseUp. If minimum wages increase now in this economy, jobs will be lost as businesses close and/or downsize, and things will get even worse than they are now. What good is an increase in minimum wage if you have no job to go to?!?

So what are they waiting for? This person needs to be charged -- whoever it is. Laws were broken and punishment needs to be dealt out. I have a feeling this is just the tip of the iceberg and the hesitancy to charge anyone only means that this person(s) knows where all the bodies are buried and will sing like a canary to take as many down with him/her as possible. This could be quite a revelation if it ever sees the light of day. C'mon AG Maynard-Gibson -- what are you afraid of?
