These judges are something else, do they even live in the Bahamas? Given the seriousness of the assault and the fact that the convicted person is a repeat offender, even in the last three years, this sentence seems far too lenient. We have a serious problem in the Bahamas of judges giving inappropriate sentences. This sentence should be appealed by the crown immediately.
Mr. Bowe uses himself as example, when his income is likely in the top 1% of wage earners in the Bahamas. Of course this tax cut is not necessary or even meaningful for him, but what about the other 99% of Bahamian wage earners to whom it does matter a great deal? Do we really think this tax cut is not beneficial to the vast majority of the middle class and especially poor Bahamians? Or do we really expect all these tens of thousands of persons to swamp our inefficient social services to look for and receive the help they need to feed their families? That is laughable and disingenuous. Food expense for the vast majority of Bahamians is their largest monthly expenditure, it is a need and not a want, and vat and all taxes should be eliminated on all food as much as possible.
Well done. Let this project be the template going forward: always give Bahamians the opportunity to have equity ownership in these tourism projects. The cruise port is a resounding success, half owned by Bahamians and I expect the beach club to be likewise.
Another poor quarter of mediocre results short on profits but as always long on excuses. Shareholders are tired of excuses. How many more years of Mr Bowe’s failed leadership? When will the board exercise its fiduciary obligation to shareholders and end this nightmare? Clearly, Mr. Bowe simply has no inkling of how to manage a successful commercial bank in the Bahamas. For years now with dismal results piled on more dismal results his mantra has been the other commercial banks aren’t doing well either. That no longer holds water as Commonwealth Bank and Bank of the Bahamas produce record net income, grow and expand their loan book. They are thriving while Fidelity bank is languishing. Shareholders have been promised and have waited patiently for 6 years on a share split. 6 years let that sink in. Why does it take 6 years to execute a share spilt? It is past time for new competent leadership. The time for excuses is over.
PLP is in a real pickle: Do you call an election before the continued deterioration in the economy or do you wait until the civil servants’ salary increase is paid in December?
