BOB is in reality one gigantic slush fund paid for by tax payer dollars. Of course it is now in the black but for how long and at what cost with over a 300 million dollar subsidy? How about a radical concept, privatize this Bank, thus removing corrupt government control and influence and remove this continuing liability from the government’s balance sheet. I am tired of my hard earned tax dollars propping up this losing entity.

Why mr. prime minister? Do you realize we are broke, stop wasting our precious money on frivolous and unnecessary trips. Take the money we save and send a doctor to Simms clinic in Long Island which has been without one for many months. This is a much more urgent need than your trips!!!!!!!

About damn time. Justice for all. Nygard needs to be declared persona non grata and let him bribe his way in some other country. It is the people’s time now.

Mr. Coulson can we have a follow up to this article you wrote. Your advice has been proven to be spectacularly wrong and you owe an explanation to your readers. Cable’s share price continues to crater ( currently $2.30) and there have been seven consecutive quarters of losses, with the latest quarter over a month late presumably with more bad news. You were very enthusiastic in your assertion that Cable was undervalued, can we have an update please. A mea culpa is certainly in order.

Mr. Nygard clearly does not respect the Bahamian people much less our Bahamian courts. He should be held in contempt of court and the court’s judgement enforced. It is absolutely ridiculous how much deference is paid to this man by our authorities, a Bahamian would be treated far more harshly. The double standard needs to stop.

You miss a very important point. We are broke. Every cent spent on these state funerals are spent with borrowed money. Put on the govts credit card so to speak. We need to get our fiscal house in order. If it were up to me not one cent would be spent on a state funeral for anyone. Each of these persons were well compensated with taxpayer dollars in salary and innumerable other perks while alive. Why should we pay to bury them too when we can not afford it? Why should the poor in this country be saddled with a regressive, oppressive 12% vat? I will tell you why in part to pay for these funerals when these families could well pay for them themselves. Every cent adds up, with interest. When our dollar is devalued will rue the day we wasted so much money.

DonAnthony says...

I agree tal. State funerals should be only for those who held the office of prime minister or Governor General. We are a broke country and need to pay down our debt. Funny how these politicians love spending other people’s money (taxpayer dollars). Next time they want a frivolous state funeral let members of parliament pool their resources and pay for it themselves.

This government and all previous governments could care less about clean energy and specifically going solar. I live in a southern family Island and the red tape to install a grid tie system is ridiculous. Then we are severely restricted in the size system we can have. The best that I can hope for is a 4KW system because of assine rules. I want to install a system large enough to cover my entire energy needs. BPC has these rules in place to prevent this, so they would rather have a barge bring in dirty oil with the possibility of an accident rather than let me power my home entirely off of clean energy. Any excess power generated and put back into the grid only credits the homeowner with the fuel charge amount. All of this is to subsidize a corrupt, inefficient government owned power company. If the govt is serious this needs to change tomorrow.

DonAnthony says...

No. We are broke, only when our debt is completely paid off. Stop thinking of ways to waste our hard earned taxpayer dollars.

I agree 100%. Maybe the first thing you have ever written that I can wholeheartedly endorse.
