Every Bahamian who loves this country and the democratic freedoms we enjoy should oppose minister Mitchell on this every step of the way. This is a matter for the courts, we are a democracy not a dictatorship.
This summer while in Nassau I saw what appeared to be an immigration large yellow bus, with what appeared to be immigration officers in camouflage. I had to stop my car on a curve for traffic and the next thing I knew one of these men was banging on my hood and trying to open my back door. I immediately hit the accelerator and left him with his hands grasping at air. My wife was very unsettled, are we a banana republic? No identification from this thug and why are these immigration officers wearing camouflage? It was very unprofessional to say the least. We can not give such persons more power in this country!
This immigration department has too many unprofessional thugs and needs to be properly regulated. The bad apples fired. Of course the chief educated thug of them all is minister Mitchell who feels that he is above the courts. Our laws are adequate we simply need more courts and we need simply to follow the rule of law - especially minister Mitchell!

It is about time. This price increase should have been granted years ago. If you want to avoid a late fee then pay your bill on time, it is as simple as that.

I witnessed this sad affair and it left me depressed all night. It was clear even driving by that this individual was not in their right mind and was acting irrationally. The police made an attempt with vehicles driving at high speeds next to this poor man to try and stop him. We need tazers issued as standard to all policemen or even pepper spray. There has to be some intermediate option short of shooting someone who is mentally deranged. We all would have been better served if this gentleman did not have to be shot, and access to the west restricted unnessarily, and it was clear that the police could have handled this if properly equipped and trained in a much more professional manner.

"To be arrested without reasonable suspicion, taken into custody, not informed of the reasons for the arrest, not allowed an opportunity to refute allegations, if any, made against him taken under heavy guard to his residence and given a very short time to pack a bag and board a flight out of the country, are actions by the immigration authorities which amount to a breach of the rules of natural justice.”

When will minister Mitchell clean up the dept of immigration and stop violating persons' rights. It is clear with so many allegations and indeed censure by the court that the department is incompetent and have little regard for human rights or the law!

The rot begins at the top, Mr. Mitchell needs to go, and the abuse ended.

I agree with you that it is considerably cheaper to purchase yourself online. This is the case for almost everything in the Bahamas. Local businesses have considerable overhead costs so I empathize to an extent, however, in many cases their profit margin seems excessive.

The prices you quote seem quite low, it all depends on the manufacturer and quality of the LED. For outdoor use you need a very high quality bulb, I always prefer to pay extra for quality, which is critical for a bulb that will be exposed to the elements. I bought GE and I have no doubt they will last at least 10 years.

Just want to encourage Bahamians to use LEDs, which is the point of this article, they are good for the pocketbook and good for the environment. Also we really need eco friendly policy intiatives, which have been sorely lacking, such as subsidizing the cost of purchasing LEDs.

Lie is too harsh, definitely an exaggeration but the savings are real and the figures in this article are in the ball park. I know because I did extensive research and just replaced my security lights with LEDs and there are huge savings.

I replaced 4- 100 w floodlights which used each per night roughly 1000 watts or 1 kWh. Per year this translated to 4 ( # of bulbs) x 365 days per year x .40 cents per kWh = $584 just for elec for security lights.

I replaced these 4 bulbs with LED bulbs that gave 90 watts of light but burned just 18 watts in power. So it cost me now $584/5 = 116.8 per year for a savings of $467. That is a huge savings and definitely worth it. These bulbs are amazing, give fantastic light, barely get hot and are beautiful!

Now outdoor wet rated LEDs cost far more than the $3 you quoted. A good one cost at least $25 in the U.S. Before taxes and shipping, and they do have a life span of 10-15 years.

I bought one in a state where the local utility was mandated to subsidize light bulbs for its customers and I purchased my bulbs for $16. Our power company should be mandated by URCA to subsidize the costs of LEDs for all Bahamians. But not to use LEDs in your home is literally throwing money away.

Shut Bahamasair down! Since 1973 taxpayers have subsidized Bahamasair to the tune of over 500 million dollars. We can not afford this inefficient, albatross around our necks any longer. This money is better spent elsewhere. There is no need for this airline anyway as the private sector can replace it at much less cost to overburdened taxpayers.

I was engaging in satire, by answering a ridiculous comment with an equally ridiculous comment. Of course no one should be flogged but it is interesting that you claim to care for poor black people, yet the only people you want flogged happen to be poor black people. Notice Mr Munroe said nothing about flogging illegal Americans who sometimes enter our country.
As for road blocks, they are illegal, Fred Smith proved this in court a long time ago, but you love lawlessness as you love this lawless government. So you enjoy sitting in your illegal roadblock, not for me as I know my rights and intend to see they are not being violated.

Get ready for another whitewash. We have yet to hear of any discipline for the persons who allegedly abused the Cuban detainees years ago. Fred Mitchell should be ashamed of himself.
