Take your pick of any of the scandavian countries ( Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland). Need any more Tal. These govts are all characterized by a high level of socialism. Taxes are very high but the govt efficiently and honestly administrates very competent govt ministries. Finland has the best educational system in the world. In most of these countries, education is free some as far as university, healthcare is free and some of the best in the world. They are all consistently rated as the best countries in the world to live in. We are not there, not even close, and a poorly run national health program is worst than none at all. That is just reality. Our beauracracy is not developed enough to run programs of this import and magnitude.

Papa's time is done, in fact he should have never come back for his last term, just like Mr. Christie. Old tired ideas, with the same incompetency. We desperately need a younger leader with true vision and competency to lead this country forward, a complete break with the past. Only problem is I am not sure that person exists in either party right now.

In a different Bahamas, one where government was honest, competent, efficient, and transparent a national healthcare program would be wonderful. Sadly that is not the reality we have today, there is not one government ministry that reflects these qualities, rather it is just the opposite. The best I have seen are the govt clinics that I would argue work really well given their limited resources. We can not even ensure that there is a valid insurance policy on a public building with a real insurance company, and govt wants me to entrust my healthcare to them? No way. These govts have messed up everything they touched, clean up your act before you ask me to pay for substandard healthcare.

Can anyone save us from these incompetent buffoons? Mr. Davis is in charge of a massive ministry, overseeing the largest public works project in the Bahamas and they are not even aware that an insurance policy has lapsed at a nonexistent company? Someone needs to be fired and perhaps charged with a crime. We can not afford much more of this absolute incompetency!

You are absolutely right. It must be stressed that cable is 100% Bahamian owned, with the treasury and NIB currently owning 29%. They should get the next cellular license, if this govt truly believes in Bahamians. I doubt they will get it as this govt loves foreigners and hidden deals more than Bahamians which is a shame.

DonAnthony says...

Why are NIB funds being used to buy ambulances? This is a pension fund, not a fund to pay for capital expenses for the ministry of health. I'm tired of my pension funds being used by the government for other purposes. These funds are sacred and should be used 100% exclusively to fund pensions!

You finally realized you got swing? At least you were man enough to say it. I will not say I told you so.

Reading this made me sick today, even though I knew it was coming. No one will be fired, no one will resign, the same contractor will probably get the job again. No denying it we are a throughly corrupt nation, and this government is corrupt to the core.

Mr. Mitchell is not serious about intelligently and responsibly dealing with our illegal immigration problem. He is serious about duping the Bahamian public! If he wants to fix this problem he would find the funds to repatriate and empty a detention centre that is already suffering from massive overcrowding, where alleged human rights abuses have been taking place. Instead for weeks he has sending out press releases about an exercise in Abaco. It is merely a photo op, and political lip service duping a desperate Bahamas for real results. We deserve so much better. Repatriate those we have already detained, speed up the regularization of those worthy of it, then do the exercise in Abaco.

If Mr. Mitchell spent half the time he does complaining and maligning human rights groups, on addressing these alleged abuses we would not be in the embarrassing mess we are in. And I am tired of him saying "nor is there any official sponsoring of abuse". We all know this, we are not dumb, the question ( never answered) is did these abuses take place and if so how will they be remedied? But he dances around never addressing the issue hoping it will go away or that the Bahamian public is too stupid to see his verbal dodging.
