KML...My goodness where do these comedians come from? The Bahamas National Trust executive says we are depleting our resources for certain seafood such as the conch. http://www.tribune242.com/news/2012/sep…
But now today I am finding out that we can actually fix this problem by following certain guidelines. “They pumped it into the open bay pumping out conchs as it went and made a island. The place has never had as much conchs, fish and crawfish.” Well folks, there we have it. Our worries are over. Conch and crawfish fer days. Boop, boop, boop, boop, boop! Yeah ya see!
Kirk, I endorse your response 100%. I am also a musician/arranger who has fought tirelessly to keep Bahamian music in our schools. I have compiled several books with Bahamian songs for the ”Mystery” of Education, so I feel your pain. I am constantly bringing the argument to the table regarding the Goombay Festival and why we are not using this as a platform for a festival.
Going to Goombay Summer in the early 80’s were the best years of my life. Watching the Royal Bahamas Police Force Band perform with “Shorty” singing and dancing on the zebra crossing was a delight! Not to mention the dancers, they were beautiful and well-choreographed. The local entertainers were spectacular: At least during the summer musicians could have looked forward to being employed. I don’t think Bahamians realize how popular the Goombay punch soda is around the world. My friends in Ohio always ask me to bring a case or two when I visit them.
These are all of the ingredients needed to cook up a big pot of culture that we can sell to the world. But what happen to all of that? Nonetheless, the bigger question that I have is, why are so many of our seasoned entertainers so silent on this matter???? When people come together as a unit to protest something they thing is
To line their pockets along with their cronies. It is blatant stealing and unfortunately the average Bahamian could care less as long as they can afford to buy dey lil numbers.
LOL... Yep I used to live in Shirlea, so I know about Okra Hill , the Kemp Roadians and the rest a dem. I have also worked as a freelancer for years doing several projects for the government. Trust me I know about the ins and outs of not getting paid until the work is completed versus the foreigner getting their big payout just for consultation. The run arounds and all the other bullshit. So I can attest to the fact that foreigners are always preferred over the Bahamians in this country. It is sickening. I am at the point where I started to work on projects that can be used internationally rather than be bothered with this mambo jambo.
Solution: Bring in foreigners to be a part of the police force, give the commissioner full control of the force without political interference and fix the judiciary. And I am not suggesting bringing in foreigners because I think the local force lacks manpower- The police are failing in their quest to bring crime under control because of 5 reasons; 1. Corruption, 2 they don’t have the drive, 3 they turn a blind eye to some crimes or look the other way when the perp is a family member or a friend, 4 commissioner does not have complete control over his team and 5 the judiciary is a mess. Bringing in outsiders will at least address three up these problems. The fact of the matter is that all small countries where everyone is familiar with everyone else should have some form of external law enforcement agency, so that there be some objectivity in the carrying out of law enforcement . But the day that happens is the day when pigs will fly, so says Fred. LOL… The saddest thing about this country is that our leaders don’t even have a conscience or are even bothered by the fact that they are committing the greatest crime against their own. Their greed and arrogance wouldn’t even allow them to see their faults. Unfortunately, the few who comment on these pages are not enough to fight city hall. Let’s face it, Nassau is a jungle. The only solution I see is to move as far away from this place as possible.
LOL... You guys are a riot. KML...Thinker and Proud are correct though. Too much resources going towards something that I think needs to be looked at from another angle as far as the law is concerned. I am saying this objectively as someone who really do not care for mary jane. It really is sad when you have 63 year olds involved in this trade though. It shows that people are really suffering and are taking risks to rake in the dollars. Frankly speaking, we gat too much archaic laws in this dam country anyways!
