Amen. You're exactly right. Bahamians will be left with BEC/BPL's liabilities totalling mega millions of dollars, much of which has been guaranteed by our successive corrupt governments, while the new foreign owners and their favoured Bahamian cronies will reap all of the future profits from a slimmed-down lean and mean BPL that will nevertheless charge exorbitant electricity rates to feed the greed of the new corrupt owners.
And like when Batelco (now BTC) was privatized, our corrupt government will heave on to the backs of Bahamian taxpayers overly generous severance packages for non-productive BPL union employees (including unionized management tier personnel) who should long ago have been summarily dismissed, i.e., fired!
Marquista Thompson is just the front man behind this most hideous and unsuitable project. Many Bahamians know who is really behind this God awful project, and they are deeply disturbed by the blatant corruption at Town Planning that has been cultivated by the true scumbag developer.
You will never guess which politically connected wealthy Bahamian family also has a most generous indirect ownership interest in this cement/concrete production plant. You only have to look at who has been behind the approval of all the major foreign owned projects now planned for Grand Bahama which will eventually throw only bread crumbs the way of Grand Bahamians.
> PRIME Minister Philip “Brave” Davis said the corporate income tax his administration will introduce would not directly affect Bahamian-owned ventures, but would generate $140m per year in government revenue.
Note how slippery weasel Davis uses the word "**directly**". This tax undoubtedly will have a huge effect on all Bahamians as it signals to wealthy foreign investors that the corrupt Davis led PLP government is willing to discriminately target their wealth generating ability for taxation.
And this type of taxation is but the tip of the iceberg for the taxes that will be coming the way of all Bahamians and their businesses, whether wealthy or not.
