Are we talking about rates of infection or death? So far, at least based off of the evidence that we have, it seems that a person can only be infected once. In addition, the overwhelming majority of people survive the initial infection. Assuming that an individual cannot be reinfected, plus with the deployment of vaccines (although efficiency is still questionable), the pool of potential candidates for infection would continually decrease. Given what we have seen so far, it seems that COVID has grown less deadly over time.
Talking all of the above into account, I personally highly doubt that we would ever get to the place where 1% of the US population would die from it. Eventually, there would be a shortage of people to infect. Granted, we don't know enough about how it may mutate yet, but even the newer strains seem only to have higher rates of transmission and not deaths.
My point wasn't necessarily about the contagiousness of the disease, just the fact that people are going to die anyways. As morbid as it sounds, the demographic groups experiencing the highest rates of death are honestly the ones with the worst long term prognoses anyways (ie. elderly, morbidly obese, ones with autoimmune deficiencies). If COVID doesn't get them, something else will is my overall point.
Honestly, big thing with this is how differently individuals experience this. Had a relative who tested positive in Florida, and he basically had flu symptoms. Know others who had no symptoms at all during the time that they tested positive. I also personally question whether the unusually inactive cold and flu season is somehow tied in with COVID, more specifically whether the PCR tests aren't potentially misidentifying other cold strains as COVID-19. A lot of questions with not many answers at this point.
Most of these people didn't have hurricane insurance, or if they did, were stiffed. Know a guy who had his company only give him a 50% payout because he had part of a wall still standing. 10k (if you got the full amount) isn't diddly squat to even begin rebuilding your life with, but it certainly would do something to help these people out.
I have my issues with that claim of 400,000 deaths, I believe that to be inflated to be quite frank. Assuming that it is indeed correct, you do realize that it took 1 year for 400,000 deaths to occur, correct? That is an estimated 33,333 deaths a month in a country with an estimated population of 330 million people (0.0012% repeating of the total population). You would literally have 8.25 more years to go (assuming that the rate of death remains the same) before 1% of the US population would assumingly die of COVID-19, this is not even considering that there seems to be no serious evidence of reinfection so far (much to be determined on that topic) + vaccinations.
I am sorry, this is baloney. This is not the Black Death that swept through Medieval Europe, not even close. The world is freaking out over a common cold that is on steroids. People die every single day, if not to COVID, it would be cancer, AIDS, homicide, car accidents, etc. The world is not a giant safety bubble where we are ever going to practically save every life, we can't shelter people from the harsh realities that exist in our domain.
Lol, I am a citizen of this country. I can trace part of my lineage all the way back to the Eleutheran Adventurers, I have every right (if not more) to the natural resources of this country as you do. Sand isn't going to pay the bills, bottom line.
Really wish that all these natural resources movements could at least provide a spreadsheet showing the financial details that prove their claims of millions being harvested from under our noses. Do the accounting, and you will realize how silly these people are.
Oh God, you are one of those idiots that thinks our sand is worth millions of dollars lol. Please go look up how much aragonite is worth on Amazon. Without tourism, we are dead. Bottom line.
