well these guys cant even differentiate "today" from "tomorrow", I guess at 7 pm EST it is still "today", I bet they make the decision at the poker table after dinner.
In a system that has no social security that deserves that name, the government doesn't really care. I find it telling that the DPM was begging the UN to help the Bahamas against the consequences of global warming, and he cant even get legislation on renewable energies done. Hypocrites working in their own pockets.
ok here is how it works. A man flying on Copa from panama to Bahamas with a suitcase full of money - he is a tourist. He goes to Webshop, loses all the money gambling. Webshop appropriates a % to the organization that sent the man and keeps the rest, all goes into the banking system. So this x100 and x1000. This is organized crime and the Government does everthing to make this happening. The cheap threat to go somewhere if foreigners are not allowed to play by Atty. Munroe the other day, is a clear sign that the real reason to set up the Web Shop legislation on behalf of the web shop owners is money laundering as a business. Who gives a shit about the Bahamian dropping his 190 USD per week salary at a webshop.
There is a distinct disadvantage for any U.S. bidder - its called Foreign Corruption Practices Act. I bet anybody that can bribe our government and provide economic benefits to the Bahamas' leading business men will get the deal.
It s sad that as an entrepreneur you have to take from the government what they should give you in the first place bcz you earned it - well that is if you are on the other side of the fence, I guess.
an IPO is only interesting if the company has also revenue outside the Bahamas, only this will add to the GDP. Else it is just turning money in the Bahamas. The IPO will work like that: A JV company that provides services to the Bahamas is owned 40% by some foreign telecom carrier, the other 60% of shares go public in the Bahamas. Do the math, of 10 cents dividends, 4 will go abroad. Perry, unless you finally grow a domestic business environment, this will remain the game in town. Why else should anybody come into the Bahamas and invest?
