100% agreed. We had to get an legal opinion from a Bermudian lawyer on an insurance captive bcz no law firm in the Bahamas back in the day was willing to opine on it, just to have the opinion then certified by a Bahamian to be "localized". Bahamian lawyer did nothing really but charging an extra 25,000 dollars, and so it goes. This has nothing to do with bar admission or not, this has to do with having the necessary technical legal knowledge on the island (U.S. tax law, International Insurance Law, mifid, ucits, u.s. Reg D., Chinese Capital Export rules etc.) This is knowhow that needs to be available on the island. And Bahamian law firms should start focusing on diversifying their practices as well. Too many lawyers that can economically survive only on litigation this country.
"Asked if progress has been made toward bringing such laws to Parliament, Attorney General Allyson Maynard Gibson suggested yesterday that the matter is still among the priorities her department is working on." Yep our Twisted Sister is on to it, The way this sounds they have to prioritize the priorities list from time to time at the AG's office. sooooo many things to do and so little achieved.
well ideas along the lines of D'Aguilar are good. I just see a slight problem on the execution side of a plan like that. This will only happen once this country has sunken even more deeper in to the dirt and the few right minded and honorable people get together across party lines or if there will be finally a third political party that is strong enough to be the decisive factor in this country.
The funny part about the whole situation is that all the dirty players come out of the woodwork over nothing. no charges, no court decision. All Bacon & Co did, was throwing an old weathered bone to the pack of dogs and the are killing each other over it. Big Movie, this is. Very efficient strategy by Bacon & Co. and I bet this is only the beginning and it will end with a new Government in Place and charges, shunning and legal, social, economic and political embarrassment for the whole political class in the Bahamas.

I don't think it does. The mess we are in with all the items you list, is because of the corruption in this country.
