Again our Government is trying to fix a cancer with a band aid. The short term survival of the employees should matter, but that's taken care of already by Baha Mar or private funds from S.I. Wouldn't it make sense now for our Government to do all it can to fix Baha Mar get it open asap instead, so no one has to pay the employees other the out of the income Baha Mar gets? I guess if you asked the employees, they really care more, whether they will have a job in three months from now. @AG: I simply don't see that it is feasible for the Government to have 2,400 staff on its payroll for an extended period of time.

And I bet the workers did not get paid today by the government. Had Baha Mar paid them, they would have the money by now. Happy weekends.

This Government acts like a little child. Of course the filing in Delaware poses challenges legally and politically. But now is not the time for another master thesis. No need for someone that tries to become the next Einstein. Practical solutions are in high demand. This Government does not have a reputation to care too much about the law, so why now? Every day the process to finalize and open Baha Mar is delayed, is another nail into the coffin of the Bahamian economy. We don't have tough leaders that demand Izzie and the CCA to sit down and get this resolved. Kick CCA out of the Hilton, threaten to pull all the permits if they don't finish Baha Mar. Who needs the Hilton or Downtown anyway, if there is a White Elephant outside of town?

Baha Mar said the adjournment was granted at the joint request of the Office of the Attorney General of the Bahamas and The Export-Import Bank of China, the project’s lender --- so am I reading "joint request" or is that the journalist's simplification and it should read "at the separate requests by". So AG already schmoozing with CCA. So this Government really does not take sides, ey?

GrassRoot says...

As a lawyer I am again and again baffled, how fast the AG pulls off her stunts and how long it takes her to bring other matters to resolution.

I guess another issue is that the Government sets another precedent with this. Why did the Government not cover the salaries for the Hard Rock Café staff? Where do you draw the line? Has that money been accounted for? is that the money the PMs office had earmarked to pay Baha Mar? Why pay the salaries, if Izzie offered to pay?

agreed in general and as a matter of principal, having this said though, we all know what they outcome would be if a Bahamian court would supervise the Bankruptcy. So maybe after all it is not the worst thing to have a US court dealing with that. I doubt that the US Judge sits in the pockets of CCA. Here it seems everybody in the Government und probably Judiciary as well, is.

we should pick the rules and laws we want to abide by. I really believe that the only people that experience a tangible economic uptick in this country are the ones that don't disclose their assets. Between BOB, Urban Renewal, Carnival, Numbers Boys, Downtown Nassau and Bahamar, I hope our professional thieves stole enough so they don't have to run for office anymore.

Tal, I guess its time to stop politics. this problem is Bahamian problem. If the Government can not see that, I am at a loss. We have a choice: a) empty building rotting away at one of the nicer beaches we have, b) get it fixed and bring the jobs to the people. It is established now that all CCA needed was a reason to get a few billion dollars from a Chinese bank to bump up their F/S. CCA has hit and is now on the run. They not coming back, and that's better.

GrassRoot says...

well it is even hard to find a cliff to jump off in the Bahamas. We are doooomed.

GrassRoot says...

Tal, there were many things done and said, reality is that we here in the Bahamas are the only ones that have a vital interest to get Bahamar going. We, you, me, all of us, Izzie, PGC and even DPM. It is more than clear that Baha mar as a stunt for CCA to get the EXIM Bank to bump up their Financial Statements and now CCA is in hit and run mode. So we have a simple choice. Do we want to have and empty building on Cable beach? or do we want our people to have jobs and happy tourists offloading their USD? I think we are beyond politics. You are a create thinker, you are one that the PLP needs after Rollins and Moss got kicked out like in the good old days of Russia. Too bad DPM and PGC bet on the Chinese's horse. So whoever wants to Baha mar to be a success is on the team. Not much else matters really.
