I like when the Minister talks down from up on the high horse. Bahamians have all the reasons not go crazy about stock in Bahamian companies. See what happens to the shareholder democracy culture at BOB. In the stock market, the rules are made by the ones that control the stock market and the banks/liquidity providers. You can have a perfectly sound company, if the banks cease to support its operations, your perfectly sound company is a dog over night. Particularly in a market like the Bahamas, where there are very limited alternatives to raise liquidity by companies, stock market is not to be trusted, because the "market" part is not working. Look at the value of BTC. It is manipulated by the government not giving a second license, or maybe the issue two more licenses, who knows, who knows. So as a shareholder you are totally at the merci of the people controlling the environment, and in the Bahamas, these are the often the people that steal or want to take your money in the first place.

there is another problem: unemployed people go to the doctor more often. mostly out of boredom.

ok, if I do the math, this is still in the hole in 2017 by roughly 5 Mio combined losses. It will never fly, and Mr. Major says it himself.

*"It’s all about trying to create an economic platform for culture in the Bahamas.”*

no dummy. It only works when it is the other way round. We need the Culture first, only then there will be growing an economic result that is tangible. Its like trying to introduce Thanksgiving in France. It did not fly, bcz people could not care less.

If you want to make Carnival a business, please run it like a business.

well maybe he should play the Bahamian card. Remember, investors come, and will go again, Bahamians will stay.

GrassRoot says...

no the investor is not always right. the problem in the Bahamas is that lack of predictability of the way the political actors act. Even within the same party, the same government. It must have to do with corruption that one day, they say yes, the next day they say no. So Stapedius, I guess, you are not implying that the government is always right

Why did this broker not call our greatest leader PGC? I am sure he could have made a few calls here and a few calls there to fix this.

Vision, and the lack thereof is the biggest of our challenges. we have leaders that were educated in the past under a system from the past. our leaders have not travelled, lived abroad, our leaders were not exposed to the rough realities of trade and commerce. our leaders speak only English and are not world citizens. our leaders have no network they would have gained from working in international organizations such as World Bank, who, imf, uno. It is difficult to know or try to see what we don't know or don't see. Our leaders are not even trying. They are coin operated, have no education required to run a country, they fear educated people, have developed a distinct status anxiety, which results in them doing anything (cheating, lying, backstabbing) to stay in power and in "good" social standing, they are corrupt and complacent. Our leaders are not leaders. Make them go away

yes. I agree, but the level of journalism is definitely not above the level of everything else in the Bahamas. speaking of which, I don't see why Miller gets some much attention for the little he performs. No one else anything to say? He is like a journalist magnet (same for Greatgrand "Mother" Pratt).
