You just outlined a slew of things that should not even exist. Long island is one of the gems of the Bahamas in terms of beauty, potential and its peoplec, and it seems as if that has been a problem for every government. LI performs despite the BS it gets from the FNM and PLP. They are warriors. That list is stunning but that inter-island service is key to tourism and just basic life in that part of the Bahamas. If we could just get a service going between Long Island, Cat Island and Exuma and then Acklins and Inagua- it would go a long way in expanding the possibilities down there. I want the government to commit a hundred million each year for ten years to infrastructural improvements in the southern Bahamas - not to cronies- but for projects the local people and national planners agree would impact the lives of residents in major ways. Long Island - like so many other islands could become models for new design, new lifestyles and investment. The list of needs above suggests that the government is trying to break the LI spirit and wants to cultivate a neediness in the people. Independent spirits scare politrickans- Soldier on LI. Soldier on.
Sheeprunner12, I was thinking the same thing. he will get released on bail and slip right back into the culture without us knowing who he is, right back into criminality.
"a culture of mismanagement and a lack of maintenance"-And much like the country as a whole, "It has such possibility of being an excellent facility if (they) just finished (work) ....the staff has proven they cannot keep it up.” Same old story- wasting money by paying people who refuse to do their jobs and letting money spent go to hell because of poor maintenance - probably inadequate materials to begin with- and even more money to repair what wont be maintained And the cycle of wastage, incompetence and cronyism continues.
This is the land of pirates. And we elect the worse ones to run the country and manage the public purse. This is a no brainer in any modern society and one of the many things holding the country back- the others in no particular order- lack of cheap reliable electricity, a public educational system producing illiterates without consequence, crime and violence, political corruption, lack of transparency and accountability in government and in society at large, absence of 21st century leadership, bloated inept and inefficient public service, poor health care, burdensome tax structure, complete lack of innovation, black crab syndrome, poor economic development and planning that anticipates the furture rather than respond to the past. Thank God for Stafford Sands because as much as the PLP hated him, neither them nor the FNM have come up with a model different than the one he provided seventy years ago. A damn shame.
sheeprunner12- the problem is that they would have to submit themselves to someone who is not only more egotistical and narcissistic than they are, but has less ideas than they do, is more corrupt and can barely string a sentence together in public. Joining forces cannot and certainly should not mean that they have to submit completely under Minnis- because if that is the case, it will never, and should never happen. What is Minnis and the FNM party offering them? What is their platform? What is their strategy? If the only answer is we can figure that out later- join and forget everything you believe or stand for (they may actually have some issues near and dear to them) then that is a bunch of foolishness and we are just replacing one corrupt tribe with a fractured second tribe who will surely splinter. Enough is enough. Why don't the Tribune cover some independents- Terneille Burrows in Elizabeth, that young man in Bain Town and the young woman who announced the other day? Surely there are other things happening politically. Why not cover those two religious based parties- that to me personally, are scary as hell, but lets hear from everyone.
What's the criteria for the establishment of a constituency? Why change boundaries if the criteria has been met. It isn't as if people have been able to afford to move in the past 4 years unless they have moved out of the country.
