I hope he left personal papers/writings/musings that the family would be willing to give to the National Archives or COB for future research. I only heard him speak a few times but during these events and through his writings, you could tell that he was a fount of knowledge. I hope that it all didn't die with him.
once again a chance to change the entire policy across the board - through act of law - and do something good for the country and what do these jokers do? give in to the demand of hostage takers. This may seem an extreme statement but weren't these folks threatening to shut down power across the country if the government and BEC didn't give in? Holding folks hostage to their demands? Watch out Brave and Perry- Miller might have suddenly become righteous, but the people on his side on this one. Ya'll gonna need his seat in a couple years. But I am beginning to think he might be able to win it back without ya'll.
The power the union has did not develop overnight. In the days of milk and honey, government after government conceded to their demands and now they have a stranglehold on a failing corporation and the country. BEC's inefficiency over the years has cost the country untold billions of dollars. Not just in its obvious wastage but i terms of every tv, and fridge the every man has had to replace because of brownout, and constant power disruptions. The union cannot seem to balance immediate self interest with long term benefits for the country and in terms of their job future- themselves. Unfortunately Miller simply does not have the moral authority or the ethical skills to shift things (quite frankly some of his tactics have been appalling)- But while he and the union squabble in public, the silent government should sell BEC from under them.
I would like to think that at least one of these twenty-seven people had the courage to tell the prime minister that this was and is a terrible idea. I would like to think that many of them would have declined the nomination, but alas everyone is for sale and will ride a dumb horse until it's dead. Didn't the PM hear the chorus of people saying this was a bad idea when he first announced it? One more example of a complete lack of knowledge and vision. A waste of resources and a lack of value for what we do have. Carnival didn't emerge overnight as a marketing gimmick. It's a part of the deep history and culture of a place five times larger population wise and with a larger diaspora to build on. What a bankrupt leadership. Desperation exposes all. Deaf, dumb and blind.
