Well aren't you crabby today? I have no idea why any of this matters. I can tell you though, he makes exorbitantly less than Disney's CEO who took home $36 million last year.
In case you didn't see this: One Eleuthera has not been around since 2006, they were formed in 2011. But Friends of Lighthouse Point was pre-existing. To answer your question, One Eleuthera, CTI and the credit union, all together currently have about 70 permanent full-time positions for Bahamians. In comparison, Disney currently employs 55 Bahamians at Castaway Cay, and about 100 - 110 foreigners. Those 120 - 150 jobs they are promising Bahamians at Lighthouse Point? It is more like 40 - 50 jobs for Bahamians. Whereas LPP will hire 190 Bahamians. It is sad that we have to fight about this.
The two biggest employers in the South are Carnival Cruise (Princess Cays) and Half Moon Cay. If the people of the south have not benefited from those cruise ports so far, why do they think Disney will be any different? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome is crazy. I know that saying is cliche but it's so fitting here.
I signed the petition to Save Lighthouse Point. No one paid. And Disney is "the big boys" and they have fooled those that support them. Once they get approval, they can do whatever they want.
I keep hearing about this "there are too many foreign second-home owners operating as illegal guides now" but have yet to hear anyone give some solid proof. Do you have any examples? I would honestly like to know so that we can avoid renting from anyone doing business illegally in the Bahamas.
