It doesn't matter who leads the FNM or the PLP into the next election - it will be the same old sh*t from both parties. What Bahamas needs is a complete eradication of the tribal politics that has retarded the country's growth since independence. There is no hope for progress when the governing party (PLP or FNM) has a mission to favour its sponsors, party faithful and friends. What is needed is a Party and ultimately a government of National Unity where tribal dinosaurs are excluded, political appointments are no longer, and the party is populated with bright young minds who have their country's best interests at heart. Is this a forlorn dream?

Good luck with your new venture banker, your comments have always been sensible and have been the perfect antidote for the PLP trolls that populate these blogs. I suspect that many will be following your lead before too long and exiting these shores for good. Such a shame. Bahamas could have been another Singapore had Pindling swapped notes with his peer Lee Kwon Yew. LKY understood the importance of having a zero tolerance towards corruption and the critical importance of teaching young people about honesty, respect and improving their general education. Singapore is reaping the rewards today. What do we have? We have a political elite that pillages the Nation's wealth, promotes a growing mass of feral and uneducated youth, allows violent crime to spiral out of control and leaves a huge White Elephant on Cable Beach as a monument to its greed and duplicity. Our politicians have no vision and no integrity. Our tribal approach to politics is primitive and can never lead to long term success. You are well out of it Banker.

The Old Guard is the PLP!

Hubert Minnis is a doctor. He ain't no politician. He should stick to what he does best and allow someone who has a nose for politics and team building to lead the FNM into the next election. He is making far too may poor judgment calls for everyone's liking. Furthermore, he is giving the impression of someone who, if handed the reigns of power over the country, would evolve into some insecure despot. This is the last thing we need.

Good article Nicole but If Bahamians want to change this "terrible place" then everyone needs to start respecting the laws of the land in EVERY regard. We must not tolerate ANY criminal or anti social behaviour. I drove behind a male driver a few weeks ago. After drinking his beer wrapped in its brown paper bag, he nonchalantly tossed the empty bottle onto the pavement as he drove on. Unfortunately, people will not respect the laws if the police are not seen to be enforcing them. Our police are far too lax on dealing with small infringements. For example, why should motorists be allowed to drive with tinted windshields? Why should Jitney drivers be allowed to drive with hazard lights continuously flashing? Why are housebreaking and other thefts ignored by the police?

The Progressive Liberal Party - the party funded, and in the pockets of, Peter Nygard, the Numbers Houses and the State of China. Who will rise up and defeat this evil?

Nygard has the moral conscience of a slug and has completely manipulated our greedy and corrupt third world politicians. By his utterances on video, and by any standards, he is an unfit and proper person to hold permanent residency in The Bahamas. Christie, Mitchell, Gibson et al would rather query the suitability for residence of a genuine foreign investor who had reportedly invested some $800 million in a project that would have revolutionized tourism in New Providence. Their silence on Nygard is deafening. Meanwhile the country's reputation has descended to a depth not experience since the days of the Commission of Enquiry.

It's the nature of the beast. Give the PLP an open "cookie jar" and their grubby little paws are inside. They don't know any better

Bahamians have a fear of crime but no respect for the rule of law. We tolerate corrupt and greedy politicians and we behave as if laws are for someone else. This rampant escalation in crime is the price we are all paying for the drop in our moral standards. Time to look at ourselves in the mirror.

This country would fall into the abyss were it not for The Tribune and The Guardian holding our grubby politicians to account. Keep up the good work. Truth ultimately wins.
