Whilst I can appreciate the business community's anxiety over this latest lock down we simply have to get this virus back under control otherwise many people are going to die before their time. Allowing every business to stay open is not going to achieve that. This lock down was preventable had government got its strategy right but it messed up and now we really have no option but to lock down again. The immediate priority must be protecting the health of our citizens and particularly those on the front line.
What has government been doing last few months???? We were on top of the virus with hardly any new infections. We should have been using this time to increase our testing capability, ICU provision etc. Instead we opened up to the USA with, it seems, no contingency plan in place for the inevitable resurgence. Now the very thing government was afraid of from the beginning - that our healthcare system would become overwhelmed - has now come to pass. Unbelievable!
Jitney drivers are the most ignorant and inconsiderate drivers on the road. Why does our police force allow them to drive with hazard lights permanently on? What is that about? Setting my personal grievances aside, what was government playing at in inconveniencing ordinary citizens by not giving them at least 24 hours notice of jitneys being cancelled. That is an outrage! Is no one coordinating anything inside government? There seems to be no "competent authority"!
The 7pm curfew is unhelpful for the reasons stated by contributors above. Make it begin at 8 or even 9 p.m.- it wont make much difference to the virus but will help those who are working to manage their lives a bit better.
