"We need strong dynamic leadership with a clear vision for our country." Well, no-one is going to argue with that provided the vision is one that supports ALL Bahamians and not just those wearing a particular colour of shirt. The "jobs for the boys" theology practiced by the PLP is ruining this country both in spirit and in practice. The Ishmael Lightbourne fiasco over his outstanding Property Tax and Bradley Roberts pathetic attempt to excuse his lapse says everything you need to know about how this party governs. Makes you want to throw up.
Who in government says he will lay back every last cent? Why was this arrears situation allowed to develop in the first place? This delinquency amongst the politically connected (PLP and FNM) is an absolute disgrace. This country has never grown up after 40 years of independence. When will Bahamians say "enough is enough" - we are tired of corruption and persons in authority taking advantage of their position? Until that time occurs, The Bahamas will continue to be an afflicted nation.
There will be no lawsuit - this is pure bluster. The best thing BOB can do us keep a low profile and get its house in order. Step one should be to replace the existing executives and replace them with professionals who will follow best banking practice.
Has Lightbourne explained his rationale for not paying his Property Tax? Just interested in what goes through the mind of these people? He should be removed immediately from his current role.
Everyone can see that the implementation of 15% VAT is going to be the final nail in the coffin for many struggling businesses. This will translate into a substantial rise in unemployment and devastation for the PLP at the next election. Talk about having a death wish? Let's look at the more realistic alternatives of payroll tax, enforcement of Property tax and the elimination of wasteful government expenditure. The misguided BTC buyback exercise and the web-shop referendum fall into the latter category.
