“There are some 15,000 properties which have been identified as having not been valued, as being grossly undervalued or having the incorrect usage; that is, commercial properties that are classified as residential,” he explained.

What has CPLP being doing these last 4 and a half years??? Why wait until the economy is in its death throws before some action is taken???

The Pension fund is already $1.6 billion in deficit. I guess this just brings D-Day that bit closer

China PLP should NEVER be allowed to get its grubby hands any any private institution and certainly not a bank!

Honestman says...

The groundwork / foundations for NHI are simply not in place and only the dim witted China PLP would try and push through something the country cannot afford and is not prepared for.

There will be no penalty. There is no accountability. Christie and China PLP are laws unto themselves. The Bahamian people have one last chance to boot them into political oblivion come next May. If Donald Trump can stick it to the Washington elite then surely the ordinary Bahamian Joe can defeat this Chinese sponsored Mafia? The opportunity for freedom is there but are we so mentally enslaved that we won't take it? My belief is that honest, hard working Bahamians have had enough and WILL prevail.

Of course Christie approves of the plan - only an idiot would think otherwise. This is an ideal get rich scheme for Christie and his China PLP elite.

There will be very little foreign direct investment into the Bahamas in the foreseeable future. Potential investors will have watched how China PLP allowed the "shake down" of an investor by the name of Sarkis Izmirlian who reportedly lost in the region of $1 billion dollars. Who in their right mind would want to risk even a fraction of that amount with China PLP running the country? Meanwhile our feckless Prime Minister continues to tell us that he expects Baha Mar to be open by the end of this coming winter season!! I believe he is of the school that believes that "if you speak it, it will happen". Does anyone see construction gathering apace at the site? This resort will not open in 2017 - anyone with half a brain can see that.

China PLP will try and engineer for "honest" George to be brought back into the fold.

I am disappointed that the Tribune has taken the editorial stance of criticising Trump before he is even sworn in. For sure there are many aspects to his character that provide cause for concern but that could equally be said of his defeated rival Hilary Clinton. The fact of the matter is that Obama has been a huge disappointment for many Americans and he has done little to favour The Bahamas. A Clinton victory would have resulted in more of the same failed policies. The Tribune would be better served exploring answers to the question: why did Trump win? One reason, I believe, is that people throughout the world are sick and tired of globalism, of political elites such as the European Union, Washington etc. There is an anti establishment tide of popular anger rolling across the globe. People are tired of the same old same old. Trump, even with all his character flaws, at least deserves a chance. The Tribune, and all of us, should reserve judgment until we have something to judge him on.

Who is the Chief Superintendent trying to kid when he says Bahamians "have no reason to be afraid? When a person can't enjoy themselves at a public place on West Bay Street at 8 o'clock in the evening without being sprayed by bullets from a presumably automatic weapon then we have every right to be afraid. Ordinary people are becoming more and more afraid to venture out after dark. Last night there were reports of drivers on East West highway having their windshields smashed by thugs throwing rocks from the roadside. On what grounds should we not be afraid? New Providence has become a dangerous, lawless place and many people now live their lives in a very restricted way. There is very little quality of life anymore and the age old slogan "it is better in The Bahamas" has become completely redundant. What we could do without at this time is top policemen treating the public like fools. People are scared and they have every right to be scared. What is the government and the Police Force going to do to defeat these armed criminals?

More taxes to provide corrupt politicians with an even bigger slush fund!!
If government wants to balance the books it can start with reigning in the Property Tax dodgers. Another tax, this time on beleaguered businesses? Ridiculous suggestion!
