Government should be doing everything it can to help people like Carlos Reid. The youngsters badly need these summer camps and since the activity is mainly outdoors they pose no threat to our Covid situation. Just another mandate from our leaders that is not properly thought through. Senseless.
This article should be mandatory reading for all 1st year high school kids. I don't doubt the truth of any of it. The quote that depressed me the most was:
"He said he was raised in the church, but needed something else in his life. He wanted to know that he mattered and most importantly he wanted to be feared."
Sounds like family and church did a poor job! What a waste of life!
Pardon me for being cynical but this announcement, so close to the election, has me wondering if this idea is just a poor attempt to win votes. So 250 families are going to benefit from this government largess. What about all the hard working families that have purchased lots elsewhere at full market price, are struggling with a mortgage and who will not be getting duty and stamp exemptions on their building? How is this fair?
OK, so the Bahamas has a population of 350,000 or so. The government has a "Plan" for less than one third in terms of vaccine supply. Can the PM not at least allude to what the government is thinking in terms of vaccinating the remaining two thirds? It sounds to me as if there is no real Plan for a widespread vaccination programme across The Bahamas because government has been slow to set up the necessary contracts with the vaccine manufacturers. I know money is tight following Dorian but this is an opportunity lost. We should have been the first tourist destination to declare ourselves COVID free following a widespread vaccination programme. Sounds like we won't be able to say that until sometime in 2022 at this rate!
I can't believe this FNM cabinet are going along with this ridiculous idea. This is the exact opposite of what they should be doing! They can't even think about raising taxes when they can't collect the Property Tax revenue that is on the table, right in front of them, waiting to be collected. This is so obviously a move with the election in mind. It is however totally misguided and will lose the FNM respect AND votes. I am so disappointed.
This is a shocking and irresponsible move by the Prime Minister. It is NEVER a good idea to reward tax dodging. This is typical third world mentality and a slap in the face to all those who paid on time. Really BAD move.
I have nothing against Mr. Moultrie but he has never understood the role of House Speaker. It's time for him to be removed. I wish him well as an independent.
