A North Exuma seat in Parliament. How ridiculous! The PLP are only proposing this because they believe they can buy this small group into voting PLP.

Honestman says...

There is clearly no buyer on the horizon at this point. What we do have is a secret deal between the PLP government and the Chinese EXIM Bank (read Chinese government) to kick start construction. This deal affects the livelihood of every Bahamian citizen and resident. there is no reason for the details to be kept secret. This is typical PLP. All their shady transactions are done in the dark and you have to prize information out of them like trying to get a bone out of the jaws of a determined dog. And then our beloved Emperor (encouraged and supported by his Baha Mar mouthpieces Fitzgerald and Miller) has the audacity to be peeved because the people don't trust him!!!

Tal, on the face of it, a reasonable post but I would like to set you a challenge. Try posting a blog without using the words "Red" or "Loretta". If you can do this it will prove that you are not in fact a robot!

Well said. One thing we can all rely on is the fact that we the taxpayers will be paying for the Chinese to complete the construction and we the taxpayers will be picking up the tab for any losses suffered by the PLP crony franchise holders. How disgraceful! Also, it is as clear as day that there is no purchaser on the horizon. How much longer can Emperor Christie get away with pretending to the public that he is somehow able to influence any developments concerning Baha Mar? The more he speaks the more foolish he sounds. He should now desist from ANY further pronouncements on the resort's future.

No shareholder in their right mind would exercise their rights under this offer. NIB will certainly be used to purchase a large chunk of the $40 million rights issue which will simply add to the already gigantic $1.6 billion pension black hole. Bahamian politicians have proven themselves to be unfit to govern their own country and the people are paying a huge price for independence. What could have been!

This whole situation is due to government corruption and the creation of unrealistic public sector pension benefits. Both FNM and PLP are culpable but the latter much more so. The only options available to any new administration are: raise NIB contributions, reduce pension benefits and increase the qualifying age for state pension. These measures will buy some time but that's all. There is no way that a deficit of $1.6 billion can be reduced (even over a generation) without extremely painful restructuring of the state pension. Shame on all corrupt politicians who have contributed to this sorry mess.
