So true! They have some countries which close during the summer and winter months to allow holidays and many kids are homeschooled. Salary on this side pales in comparison to on that side. I can take a 6-month vacation back home but choose to go elsewhere! And no one ever think that these people could be self-employed as most Asians are. They could have people working instead of the other way around! Reading some of these comments remind of why I left home!!
It says he's a native of China but has citizenship elsewhere which means he has to see assistance from The Dutch (Amersterdam) not China. I am a Bahamian native with British Citizenship. if I get in trouble outside The UK, I'd have to seek out a British Embassy, not a Bahamas High Commission.
Both Political parties have had a relationship with Nygard, however, tapes are circulating with just Perry and Davis's name has been called in the lawsuit in America, so why is he still in leadership.
In terms of a new party, the PLP is far from it, regardless of the FNM's failure in the past few years it's nothing compared to the bias and cronyism of the PLP, trust me I've worked many elections with both side and the FNM looks like a baby playing with lollipop compared the PLP! The old guards need to make room for the new guard, the old politicians have lost touch with the current generation we see it every day in their actions of doing as I say not as I do. Today's voters want transparency, honesty and freedom of information. Politicians like Fred Mitchell seem to forget that they entered the arena as young men, yet they refuse to groom anyone to take over, rather they warm the seats to the HOA until death knocks at their door. I will never forget the famous last words of Bradly Roberts when asked if he will ever retire from Politicians. He said 'only death can remove me from politics.' So said so done, a few weeks after, he was gone.
The only way the country can move forward is to connect with the generation that can take it forward. My grandmother is dead, my mother who is now in her late 60s has since stopped voting because she said even with casting a vote she still has no voice. My daughters who in their 20s and now university graduates are frustrated with the process because like myself, they feel the politicians cannot identify with their plight of being young educated Bahamians.
Sad that this building was destroyed but if I remember correctly there were complaints in the past about letting the Eastern end of Bay Street full to dereliction. I think both ends of Bay should be to the same standards. On another note, why are the photos not published in gallery view? This is a poor layout of this story with text staggered in the middle, photos on both sides and having to click back to view each photo is taboo in online publishing!
All of you in the favour of oil drilling. Read up on BP! They were the same company responsible for the spill int the Gulf. They faced huge lawsuits and to date the area's wildlife is still struggling to regenerate from that. On top of that, when the rest of the world is quickly turning away from fossil fuel and looking to green energy, why is a country that had 364 days of sunshine NOT promoting green energy???
How can they seriously be considering citizenship by investment and citizen by birth? As Mandela say, we have children born to at least one Bahamian parent and they can't get citizenship.
When is election again? Every election there are major distractions then the bamboozle the people. I'm waiting for the PLP to jump on this bandwagon now, then get elected, then they sign off on the mining.
I agree! I thought that was such a slap in the face to the Bahamian people. No hospital in The Bahamas was good enough to treat him, not Doctor's, Lyford Cay and definitely not pmh! But the Bahamians have to endure the mediocre of PMH. I hope they get fewer seats in the next election than they did in the last!
