It involves a lot of work and Gladstone Road is always busy. So road closures will be a major factor and also points of entry will have to be minimized to keep traffic flowing. So some areas may require service roads to access businesses
Hopefully the engineering on the proposed round-abouts will be better than the engineering and layout of the round-about at West Bay and Blake Road. Coming East into the Roundabout on West Bay Street or North into the Roundabout from Blake Road, a driver can easily end up into a boundary wall on in the sea with even a slight miscalculation. Simply because rather than acquiring the necessary land to move the roundabout a few feet South and laying it out properly, the traffic circle is being squeezed onto existing space that is obviously inadequate. There is no room for a sidewalk or even a proper curb on the northern side and padestrains and bicyclists are left at odds as to what to do when they have to cross this area. It is simply dangerous. One would think the entire purpose of the new layout was to make the junction more safe and more easier to navigate. Maybe authorities will at least place guardrails preventing vehicles from running into the sea or crashing into the wall of the caves project.
One government institution has a ‘day-patient’ program where guardians of challenged persons can drop off these persons in the morning, go to work or do whatever chores they need to do, then pick the persons back up in the evenings. Just before the pandemic. A private company was offering similar services but, apparently they closed due to Covid.
Spanking is not considered violence in this country. It is engrained in the culture. You cannot look at the situation through rose glasses and make a judgment. Allow the proper authority to investigate.
Just don’t let a one or two minute video clip condemn a person who may have been doing their best to care for an elderly relative and was caught with her guard down for a mere moment. Also let it not force the ‘victim’ to be put in a even worse position by being taken from the care of the relative and placed in a home among strangers. Anyone know one of the most difficult jobs is caring for the elderly, especially one who may have mental challenges but still has mobility, a mentally ill person or a child with special needs. This is a s more than a 24/7 job. These people do things that are unexpected and nerve wrecking. Like getting up in the middle of the night and turning on appliances like a stove, like opening doors in the middle of the night, like trying to pet of befriend dangerous or vicious animals or even like opening the door and wandering off in the middle of the night or day even. Some go missing for days and are eventually found miles and miles away from their homes. What this country needs rather than condemnation, is an organization of volunteers, or paid persons that can come and sit with these people while their caretakers can do errands or just take a few hours break even. No amount of abuse is acceptable and this may just be a cry of the caretaker for help.
Regardless of what government does, the freight train has already left the station, the horses are out the gate. Increases are coming. And if the ‘war’ with Russia and Putin is long and drawn out, it can push the cost of electricity beyond the reach of many Bahamians. But , of course, the Arab nations can start pumping more oil and the USA can untapped some of its reserves. And every Bahamian household should strive to install solar panels capable of running basic lighting and eventually a fridge or freezer
The only way to reduce the numbers of persons returning to prison over and over is to make the conditions more harsh and time served in prison more difficult. The opinion now is you do a crime, murder even and chill in jail, like on a picnic or time out then either get released or get out on bail. Increase jail term for those found with contraband.
It is not over! But the damage may have been done. Do you know what they are saying will happen to over 50% of persons who have long lasting Covid symptoms? That’s a whole lot of millions of people.
