Obviously this man is suffering from Corona to his brain. How can he even think of wanting the government to increase taxes or introduce new ones in the middle of a world pandemic? Doesn’t this man realize that practically everyone was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, whether it was Natural or man-made. The sensible thing would be for government to effect a rapidly a recovery as possible and allow those businesses that suffered and also find themselves in an unfavorable financial situation to, at least Uniate recovery. Then government can seek to raise taxes. If government was to levy taxes on businesses, then they have no choice but to pass the increases on to the consumer. And, in most situations the consumer will be the persons least likely to afford them.

On Govt told - be tough on taxes

if minnis acts on his intention to allow tourists and others to come into this country without taking a Covid-19 test only because they have a worthless vaccine , then he should be charged with reckless endangerment. AND if he relaxes the mask requirements for the same people, when the science shows despite being vaccinated, they can still pass the virus (and get it and still possibly die from it) then he should be removed as the competent authority and definitely as the PM if the Bahamas. To WHOM is he pandering to at the expense of the Bahamian people?

John says...

ONE of the biggest problems with Bahamians is that they forgot how to ‘throw something in da pot.’ Even though there may be several people living in the same house, errybody doing their own thing. Rather than put together and cook meals they each buy separate meals, top up their own cell phone and nothing is shared. And that is the advantage Hait, for example, even the illegal ones dem, They pool their resources and so a dollar goes much further than being selfish and trying to live for ya self. So the quality or standard of living for a Haitian making the same wage if many Bahamians is greater.

John says...

Does this suggest that The Bahamian economy will be in a boom by December 2021? Tourism will be in full upswing and the cruise industry has returned? Construction will be strong and so will retail and farming.

how to fix the immigration problem: fix HAITI!

John says...

If everyone is home on lockdown or curfew then there’s no need to call or text. And rather than top up individual phones, then us hare the wi fi. Then of course there are those who are not working and cannot afford internet or top up right now.

it’s a ponzi: virtually ALL governments today are operating as a Ponzi scheme. They pile debt on top of debt, then have to borrow more and more NEW money to pay OLD debts. And because the interest on the new money is high along with corruption, mismanagement and iother deficiencies, the old debt never gets paid. So they increase taxes and otherwise create inflation to take more and more money from the consumers, so with ALL the adults in the family unit working, many cannot meet their annual expenses. So, like government, they start to borrow and to borrow more. Then it gets to the point where more and more of the family income has to be use to service debt, not even pay it. The bottom will eventually fall out only a question of when. And it will be a sudden disaster.

Do we want to live like Haiti? The facts are a lot of people living in the Shantytowns are Bahamians or legal residents. And whilst not seeking to justify shantytowns, many of the structures are better constructed and in better condition than many of the houses in Bain and Grants Town and in some other areas including some family islands where the roofs are caving in and there are no floors. There is a serious issue with low income housing in this country. And until officials address that problem then the issue of shantytowns will persist. Remember there use to be ‘yards’ or ‘lots’ in The inner city with several wooden structures on them. Then government issued orders that either these ‘yards’ had to be equipped with toilets and running water it they had to be torn down. Some landlords chose to have their structures torn down and others tried to outfit theirs with common toilets, only to discover that was impossible to manage. So they, too, eventually tore down their wooden houses to replace with more expensive apartments. Some left the property vacant, So in the main time persons who were displaced had to find alternative housing. Many moved in with friends who were staying on farms on Cowper or Carmichael or Joe Farrington Road or other areas. More residents meant the need for more structures. Hence shantytowns )in Nassau) we’re born. Out of necessity, the mother of invention . Government also tried its hand at low cost rental units, only too, to find the management of them is almost impossible. So how long will this break dow, build back game run on?

explain this: in the US. Several members of a baseball team tested positive for Covid-19 several weeks after the entire team was vaccinated with the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. They were ALL required to quarantine. So what does the vaccine do again? What is the benefits?
