The economic fallout and damage from Corona virus will have more impact in The Bahamas than the sickness/death toll, especially in the Family Islands where the population is sparse. Thus far the mortality rate of Corona is 2?percent compared to 6 percent for the flu. And if scientists are correct that the virus will slow or die off with the cold and flu season, The Bahamas may by spared experiencing the virus at its peak, but the effects on travel and tourism can be felt all the way to next winter. And, according to experts in Washington and other areas, the virus may be present in a community weeks before it is detected so not only will it have spread by persons unknowingly exposing others to it, but persons who have been exposed and not treated can become critically ill and may succumb to the disease.
With about 130,000 visitors coming to the country (7 million a year) the virus will definitely make its way here. Hopefully the warmer weather will cause it not to spread so rapidly and the mortality rate will be low.
In a number of these incidents, eyewitnesses accounts are completely different from the police. And police should never be left to investigate themselves or to draw conclusions on their actions that result bin deaths. Eventually you may find persons joint the force just to become hit men or commit murder.
So are the police using a form of ‘Laser Policing?’ This is a program that’s has been banned for use by the LAPD. The program uses police intelligence to target individuals who have criminal records and police continue to Perdue these individuals until they can ‘pin’ a crime on them and get them jailed. Here it seems that the individuals will eventually have s ‘shootout’ with police or ‘point a weapon at officers’ and meet their demise in a hail of bullets. And since there is no further investigation ( of the incident) the police has the final word. In the US, the program was declared discriminatory and unconstitutional because it was predicated on the ‘stop and frisk’ law that targeted individuals (racial profiling) and searched them. It was found that some officers were planting evidence (including drugs, weapons and stolen items) on suspects. And because the LASER program used data collected in the ‘stop and frisk’,it was still targeting young black men. Here most persons killed in a police involved shooting ‘are known to the police.’ US police are now using ‘Predictive Policing where Artificial Intelligence (AI) is used to ‘predict’ where crimes are most likely to occur. Police then patrol these hotspots where they are more likely to either be a deterrent and prevent crime or be in a position to respond more quickly when a crime occurs. And the ‘shoot to kill’ policy is highly in effect, at least here in The Bahamas.
Minnis says the decisions on plastics is irreversible. So at the end of June Millions in plastic property that could easily be utilized over the next four months will have to be destroyed or you risk paying a $2,000.00 fine or going to jail for it, Most Bahamians don’t resist the ban, but the oppose the senseless and harsh manner in which the plastic bag ban is being imposed. And as the president of Super Value indicated yesterday, many are angry but many see this as a shoplifting opportunity. And, of course, the local businesses are the target of the anger. Security officers, store managers and cashiers now find themselves getting in physical confrontations with irate cashiers almost on a daily basis.
Forty countries now have persons testing positive for the Corona virus compared to just China a just a few short weeks ago. And the virus continues to spread, like Wild Flowers and the death rate is continuing to grow. And persons are panicking and canceling travel and vacation plans. So Minnis plan is definitely NOT achievable, at least not in the short term or the time frame he has suggested. So the pm would be wise to look at other means of reducing unemployment.
If a 20% increase in hotel occupancy can cut unemployment to six percent, then why is time being wasted? A further 20 percent increase in hotel rooms would cut unemployment close to zero. O, if only economics was that simple. But with world markets crashing and travelers in mass panic over Corona, Minnis may not be able to prove his Economics any time soon. But maybe he can ask Bamsi to increase its food production for emergency purposes and food security. Maybe government needs to identify a quarantine space and health care workers in the event there is an outbreak of Corona here and the necessary medical supplies. And, unfortunately, for Minnis and the economy, even after The Corona virus is brought under control, there will be a lag of a year or two before the tourist market returns to normal. Just around election time or after. So Minnis needs to seek a plan less reliant on tourism or external forces.
Anytime you come across these women with the hyphenated last name their thinking is not rational and regardless of their level of education they always seem to be drowning in stupidity. They hide behind marriage to hide their ballsiness and always want to be strongarming others in society (marital rape because they don't want to submit). Merchants purchased plastic bags as is usual in the operation of their businesses. The bags were legal and an essential part of the business. Then the government decided to ban single-use bags. And the businesses were willing to comply. Then the government demanded business charge customers a bag tax for every bag used. This (as was intended) caused customers to refused plastic bags, as was the intention of eliminating the bags. BUT it also created a problem for a business that had stocked up on sufficient bags to run until the ban is fully in effect at the end of June. They are now being told they will have to dump the bags at the end of June. Now this hyphenated bozo, rather than meeting with businesses and finding a less costly, more palatable solution, is threatening to take businesses to court (just as she's willing to take her husband for marital rape) and inflict even more financial burden and hardship on them. Why does this government have the perception that when it comes to Bahamians, there must be penalties and the penalties must be stiff? What ignoramus would rather see businesses dump millions of dollars worth of plastic bags in the landfill rather that utilizing them before they are disposed off. Idiots
The concept may be good if it is properly tweaked. Prisoners do get on the work program where the earn money that is either held on account for them or go to their families. Since murderers get life imprisonment (twenty five years) this is twenty five years of earnings that can go to minor children or a widowed spouse. And whilst these murderers may not be CEOs, some are mechanics, construction workers, tradesmen that are capable of earning substantial income.
