The bigger story to the one about the lady injuring herself with the glass window: Maybe the fact is no one present knew how to render first aid. How to apply pressure to a wound or even a tourniquet. The same effort it took out to whip out a phone and start recording, someone could have googled how to treat a profusely bleeding wound. And even then it is not as simple as it seems. Persons will stand in fear of lawsuits and even the guilt if the person still dies. So it is more comfortable to stand back and be a part of the amused audience. Or even to record the tragedy as it unfolds and then share it on social media or wherever. Tragedy has become so commonplace, society has become numb to it or even bemused by it

The fine for smoking a joint is less than that for releasing a ballon. Which one you choose? Light up a joint to celebrate rather than releasing a $3,000 balloon. Guess they will soon bann (plastic) credit cards so they have to put the chip in your hand.

John says...

When stores purchase plastic bags they have to buy volume in order for it to be cost effective. And this quantity will run them three to five years. So after purchasing these bags they must now dump them or pay to use them. This government has to be totally sick and antiBahamian. Ban plastics if you have to buy this is outrageous.

John says...

This doesn’t seem to be a ban on plastics (and balloons), it is a ban on Bahamians! Just review the legislation passed in the last few years with the outrageous fines and prison time. Someone is siccing this government on Bahamians to create hardship and misery. An up to $3,000 fine for releasing a balloon. And the fines on plastic bags( hope CDU get rid of their fish bags) Why don’t they just ban them completely. Is it the intent of this government for every Bahamian to have a criminal record before the next election? Or for every person and business to go broke paying these outrageous fines? This legislation came straight from the gates of Hell and them who brought it needs to go back there.

So Melanie Roach been there all these years, under different governments, and her name was never heard in a negative tone in relation to her profession. Why now?

The major objective of any business (after making a profit) is to meed the needs of its customers and at the levels they demand. But with BEC/BPL it appears that for some time their capacity to produce power was going in the opposite way of customer demands and the cost of producing power was increasing, despite new fuels, innovations and technology that can make electricity in the Bahamas dirt cheap. So why is this? Why is BPL rental generators producing more energy that its own equipment? and at a higher cost per unit. Is BPL being held hostage to be dependent on older and outdated fossil fuels and by whom?

On BPL is on the edge of a cliff every day

Even though unemployment may be down to what is considered 'almost full employment for The Bahamas,' the economy is down and many businesses are reporting a decline of up to 57% in profits. This means that many businesses are no longer profitable and operating at a loss. And while more people are working, more Bahamians are shopping abroad and they claim it is to avoid the 12% vAT on already high prices. And those who shop online no longer ship their goods directly to The Bahamas but go to South Florida to collect their packages where they can bring them back and declare exemptions. So how will the government fix this problem with the sluggish and even shrinking economy, in light of w great performing tourist sector and declining unemployment?

John says...

VAT is supposed to replace duty and stamp tax. But after (PLP) government realized how much money it could make from running the two taxes (Vat and customs duty) together it kept both. The FNM came along and increased the VAT while still keeping duty but giving duty exemptions to special interest groups, (like aircraft and helicopter parts and commercial washers and dryers and caviar even). The increased VAT stifled an already depressed economy and you can challenge any government offiecr (Merlon Johnson, John Rolle, K. P. Turnquest, Hubert Minnis) to show that government revenue has increased since the VAT increase. In fact dare them to prove that revenue has not declined since the increase in VAT.

John says...

Compass Point is the FNM's Bah Mar....it has been scaled down some. The PLP (Christie) told Izmirilian, when he begged for government's assistance with the issues at the resort that was being constructed, "da man gone crazy." DeAguilar and Minnis told Compass Point, "we ainn even hearing you with your threats." A man (or woman)stands on the street corner begging. You don't want to help him/her so you say, ''He/she ainn ger buy no drugs with my money." But maybe his problem started before he got on drugs, Thats if he is. And neither charity nor good governance is measured by what creates a need. It is measured by if and how those needs are filled. And then there's Sky Bahamas..has its wings been clipped never to fly again?

Even a blind mand could see what is going on at BPL is a criminal conspiracy. The situation was bad at first then it was suggested that an American company be brought in to manage BPL. The company was recommended by the then US government. They came in and things went to bad to worse to totally catastrophic. There were major fires that damaged or destroyed essential equipment, boards were seated and fired, managers came and went and if BPL was a four-legged dog it is now trying to walk on one leg. The other three have been.
decommissioned. and are not usable. Despite the highly publicizing of the arrival of new generators, BPL is less capable of generating need capacities of power in New Providence and is just as much dependent on fossil fuels as it ever was. And so what exactly happened with this company over the past ten years? Is BPL being used as a dumping ground for that heavy Bunker C fuel that is finding less and less usefulness around the world? In fact, it is banned in more parts of the world and even where it is allowed, it is not to run a full-time power plant, but for industrial and manufacturing applications. So is that it, or at least a major part of BPL's problem and the problem with energy generation and distribution in the Bahamas? Is this country merely a dumping ground for this sludge so they keep us dumb and stupid and sweating in the dark because they have no intention of improving and upgrading and modernizing and making more efficient the power grid. The Kissinger Reports clearly states that an effective means of taking over a country is to take control of its energy suplies, among other things. So while Bahamians and their businesses suffer, Bahamians are flocking to the US in droves to do their shopping and to escape the misery of the long and frequent power cuts. ANd tourists are having sour and dark vacations. Are we there yet?
