What McAlpine is doing is making sure the people know that the government knows what their concerns are and also that the government is constantly reminded of what its promises and commitments to the people are. So when the mustard meets the catchup government and they find themselves in hot sauce, the government cannot say, 'we didn't know."

McAlpine is to the FNM what Leslie Miller is the PLP. The both have a tendency to become loose cannons from time to time and shoot their mouths off, firing from the hip. But they mean their parties no harm. They both experienced what ordinary Bahamians are experiencing are feel the need to relate their message to the top. To allow McAlpine to continue to express himself as the voice of the people that elected him demonstrates tolerance and political maturity. To silence and disband him will raise a question of democracy.

It has been preached over and over again that gangs recruit boys at young ages to become gang members. And they start off with the petty crimes like school bullying or attacking other boys who are not members of their gang. And the levels of criminal activity increases. That’s how they earn their stripes in the gang. And by the time they turn 16 or 17 they are sent out to ‘do a hit’, and take som young man’s life. And either there’s a retaliatory killing or, if they are caught, they are sent to the big criminal college to be under the tutelage of career and hardcore criminals. They know that these boys can carry out this serious type of violent behavior and get away with less punishment. They can even kill is a minor and get lighter sentences, if they survive. So where does the state intervene? Society is more quick to jump on teachers or individuals who try to discipline this lot and, in most cases , they come from single parent homes, where even mom must learn to shut up and stay out the way before ‘she get touch up.’ And all the institutions that used to discipline young boys have dried up and blown away.

This puts serious question to his credibility and the sincerity of him wanting to stamp out this type of crime and gang violence.

Someone must have cut a big rat hole in the bottom of the Public Treasury's purse because it seems the more taxes that are collected, and the more the government claims it is cutting back on spending, the higher the national debt grows and the more the cry for more taxes. What happens when tax well runs dry? or persons refuse to pay additional taxes or the national debt to GDP is stagnant (exceeds 75:1). Bahamians didn't mind biting the bullet years ago (some since 2008) but they want to see results for the sacrifices they have made and continue to make. That "Oops we overspent", or "we overlooked this expense item", is played out. (like Afros and bell bottoms).

It’s like trying to force a 300 pound hog on the back of a pickup truck. He won’t fit so you try starving him. Then when it looks like the hog will fit you realize he’s also too heavy for the truck. So now only must you go out and find a bigger truck but you now have a half starved hog that doesn’t look attractive to take to market. So while it may be ok to cut some of the fat off the government’s budget, they must also grow the economy at the same time. Otherwise there will be no bacon. Just a cash starved hog that will eventually gobble up everything.
