Again crime is a symptom of something else or some other things) gone wrong in a society. Focusing just on crime is like spraying water on the smoke when trying to put out a fire. And the route causes of crime here in this country are socio-economic. Conflict resolution nand the lack of job and career opportunities for the young men especially in these areas. A minimum wage job cannot be expected to sustain a young man who may have a family. And when a person cannot catch the bus to and from work for fear of being robbed or even killed on the bud, this will manifest itself in different ways in the community. If gangs offer protection it will be attractive to someone in desperation. And even the need to buy an illegal weapon. Not condoning it but if someone believes it is a life or death situation, they will make a choice accordingly.

Have you ever known for this type of crime to happen in The Bahamas? But it does happen in America and what are the consequences? For younger assailants, courts are now charging the parents with felony crimes especially if they aided or assist the killers in obtaining weapons or were the registered owners of the weapons used. The mother of the second grade son who shot his teacher and just recently a teen who did multiple shootings, both parents were charged. But in light of this several states, including Florida, no longer requires a permit to purchase and carry certain firearms. What is the message here?

Remember the tourist who accused an 18 y/o jet ski operator of raping her? Then after she left The Bahamas she recanted her story and posted in her Facebook page that the sec was consensual. But because the courts were closed during the pandemic, the young man had to spend several years on remand.

The question is where did this generation of freelance killers come from? One internationally known pastor predicts that the killings of young, Black men will get worse. Even to the point of there being a male shortage. He advises women to pray for their husbands and their sons and fathers to pray for themselves and their sons. Men are at risk and one should not attempt to justify murder.

On reading the article the first reaction was ‘make this make sense’. Firstly the young man did not want to go out, but he was coerced by his female friend to go out. Then there’s a fight ( between girls in the club’ and the young man leaves and goes and sit in a vehicle. He is then approached by a male, apparently from the club and stabbed multiple times. He died in the way to the hospital and the vehicle he is in crashes into a wall. A young man trying to avoid trouble ends up dead and in a car accident. How troubling and unfortunate!

THEN when I saw the photo with the victim throwing up hand signs. So the logical conclusion is ‘that’s what it’s about, gang warfare!’ The fact is some of these guys are or may be inactive members of gangs. They may no longer be into gang banging or the gang scene at all. But once they are identified as a gang member by an opposing gang, he will be attacked and unfortunately killed in this instance. It is the ‘predators’ or ‘Red Bill’ syndrome. Once a gang member sees a member of an opposing gang he goes on the attack and usually it will end in death. Sad is the number of young men, who have been murdered and their photos appear on social media showing gang hand signs. This alone should be a deterrent from joining gangs. Some say death is the only way to give up membership.

The thing is the shootings and stabbings use to occur mostly at night and so the staff working the night shift could be ‘prepared’ for what to expect. But now with these shootings and violence happening all hours of the day and all days of the week, it is definitely taking toll on EMS personnel, police, hospital staff and even residents in hotspot areas. Over 40 shootings in December and January, resulting in over thirty deaths mostly on an island 21 x 7 with no clear end in sight. Soon there may be a shortage of EMS personnel fue to burnout and people no longer signing up for the job. Same with homicide police officers.

Most fentanyl deaths in the US start of with the victims using fentanyl as a prescription drug. But because fentanyl is so addictive, the patients turn to street drugs when they can no longer get their prescription filled. And because the drug is so powerful and so lethal, just a small overdose can be deadly. Then when fentanyl is added to cocaine, usually as a powder, it makes the substance times more powerful. So much so that the person using it may lose track of how much he had taken and can be dead within minutes of taking the first dose . The powder fentanyl also pose a threat to first offenders as police officers and EMD personnel have known to have passed out after coming in contact with patients suffering from fentanyl overdose and had to be administered NorCan. The drug in the candy like form was specifically designed to appeal to youth and have started to appear in high schools and on the club scene ( US). The obvious danger ( besides the dangerous drug itself) is if a person pops these pils while consuming alcohol or takes them not knowing what they are. There have been efforts to add fentanyl to marijuana but thankfully it was not popular or successful. And hopefully this fentanyl will not take the country by storm.

The PM is definitely showboating and he and the attorney general and the minister of national security are not on the same page. The reason being this government has no real answers for crime, especially murder. The intention is to hoodwink and bamboozle the public and expect things get better. for example: most of the focus is on persons who have already committed crime and little is being said about intervention and prevention. for example; the minister of national security says the prison is overcrowded. BUT 90 percent or more of the prison population are persons on remand. Not convicted criminals. So how will this proposed bail act amendment impact that situation? Unless the numbers of persons committing crimes are reduced and the courts can speed up the pace and get more persons on remand convicted and serving time, then the bail act amendment alone will make a bad situation worse as far as overcrowding. So this government need to bring in trained personnel who can get into the heads of these young men and click off that criminal mind. If capital punishment is too inhumane and harsh then use corporal punishment. Bend the tree whilst it young. Nuff said.

Obviously this government had no answers to the crime crisis and the out-of control murder. They still want to use the Gestapo tactics America used against Blacks in the 60’s 70’s and 80’s. Those tactics were designed to bring more division against Blacks and the rest of America and hardship and economically driven crime and violence in Black communities. How about going in to these neighborhoods and offering more jobs and economic opportunities, education, and advice and counseling on crime and violence. Is the ‘gangs ‘ story like the people who refused to enter the promise land because they thought it was full of giants?

Yes, yes! This is according to police information and no information has been forthcoming from the police about the suspect since the incident. So did the police mistake the 26 y/o for the suspect they were chasing and accidentally shoot the teen?
