Bahamians been eating corned beef as a staple since Dey born and corned beef and white rice is all some Bahamians can afford. A crack conch snack costs $12.70 and boil fish or a fish dinner is upwards of $15.00. And many restaurants are serving talapia that many deem unfit for human consumption. We brag about exporting $70 Millon in seafood annually but the average Bahamian family cannot afford a meal of fresh caught fish a week. Well maybe on some Family Islands. And canned goods like corned beef and tuna are the first things Bahamians grab when a hurricane is traveling, and battery operated fans. If the normal Bahamian diet was making people sick and dead then the problem would be more on the Family Islands. Proper Education and diet management is the key. The diet requirements of a person actively working in the sun will be different from someone sitting in an air conditioned office sipping coffee on all day.
Like I said earlier the only thing that can be done is to euthanize the dog. It’s a natural instinct for dogs to kill other animals dogs, cats birds snakes, lizards. They have been domesticated to suppress their killers instinct. And once it is reactivated they will have to be put to sleep.
Well Puerto Rico is now taking the pharmaceutical companies to court because of the deathsand destruction opioids are causing in that US territory. And when one sits back and tryto fathom the amount of cocaine that is being smuggled. Into the US, one cannot but wonder if some legitimate industry is using this drug in their manufacturing processes How much is the amount now? Like 500 metric tones a year or more . But then again when I was an intern in a certain industry and we had exhibitions across the US, I was warned by an older veteran not to attend the after parties. He never told me why but within a few years almost every single office in the five story complex was closed. They were all professionals people who got on drugs and could no longer pay their rent or they had their licenses revoked. Pointing fingers will not cause this drug epidemic to go away. There must be a cooperative effort.
Banning as opposed to recycling. When you order anything online it comes in one, maybe several layers of plastic. The outer one is opaque and has all the addresses and paperwork attached. It is also sealed with a tamper resistant tape. The inner plastic is clear and usually the one the item is placed in after it is made st the factory. It protects the items from getting dirty or damaged and if there are several parts for an item, like screws or bolts they are also in separate plastic bags. And if you go to the dock to buy fish or conch unless you take a plastic (oops the banned substance) or tin pan you would want your goods in a plastic bag to keep both them and your vehicle from getting dirty. and if you want to put the fish or conch in the fridge or freezer. Our lives have been built somehow around the convenience of plastic and the safety And safekeeping it offers us for items from the kitchen to the bedroom to the garage and even beyond. Excluding it from our lives and our lifestyle will not an easy task. Will you be paying in cash or with plastic. Or maybe you should have a seat in that plastic chair. Recycling baby not banning..cause it will never work.
I am not angry and neither do I feel the United States is out to get the Bahamas. You call anyone that stands up and speaks out angry. Unfortunately it is the behavior of the big neighbor to the North that suggests, that like many Caribbean countries, this country must now seek economic opportunities beyond the US. we must diversify in order to survive.
And we must blame our uninformed law enforcement officers who swallow everything they are fed, hook, line and sinker rather than researching the facts for themselves. Joint efforts are suppose to beneficial to all parties and not just one force being hoodwinked and bamboozled by the other, with fake information.
