Three of my pet potholes, that help ranshack my car were patched last week. But only to notice today that more than half the patch on the biggest of the three has worn away. In less than a week...and with no major rainfall. No wonder the patchwork crews cannot keep up. the shoddy work is not holding up so thy have to keep repairing the same set of potholes

Well maybe they can charge taxis with fares $5.00 and keep employees tolls at $1.00

The bridge only serves the benefit of the persons living on Paradise Island or those who work over there. And since it is a necessity it shouldn’t be a burden on taxpayers. The toll should be doubled to $2.00 and $4.00 respectively. And $8.00 When the airport was rebuilt parking went from $3.00 to $6.00 to now $8.00 and sometimes you have to pay for the entire weekend (25.00) even if you park for just one day. Since most guests don’t leave the island until they are leaving The Bahamas the toll should be automatic. It’s a luxury island right?

Dramatic overkill by the speaker of the house. With such a small opposition and government already having full power and control, there is no need for draconian moves by the speaker. How many times have members walked out without getting suspended. The matter with Glenys Hanna and the speaker could have been resolved in private Just add up the amount of police hours alone that has to be dispatched today and probably for the next two sittings of the house. The public is leaning towards the opposition on this one.

Several points about the Rony saga:

1. The Government of the Bahamas should not view the court order to bring Rony back to the Bahamas and grant him status as defeat. If immigration had followed due process and had given Rony a court hearing the matter would never have escalated to this point.
2. While the law does require persons, like Rony, who are born to parents of illegal immigrants to apply for status, it does not define the status of those who do not apply or even those whose applications are rejected. And the norm is not to deport these people. So then the law must address this.

3. The law must make the process for those who do apply to be more seamless and less burdensome. In many cases the applicant may not possess the various documents that are required and rather than have secondary measures in place the application comes to a dead standstill. So then you will find many Jean Ronys who are faustrated by the system and chose to remain a person without status until they get caught up in situations like the current one.
In Rony case he allegedly has school records, a criminal record and other documents to help confirm his identity.
3 Yes there is a big big problem with fake documents in this country. Drivers licenses are probably the biggest offenders. And so there must be a verification process set in place to ensure that brith certificates are for the persons presenting them. In some countries it is no longer to state a child’s sex on a birth certificate in favor of The perverted argument that sex is not determined at birth. So hospitals are now making prints and scans of unique Peet’s of infants (foot prints and retina scans) to assist in the identification.
AND. Rony should not allow himself to be used as a pawn in anyone’s fight against the Bahamian government and/or their constant need to feed their oversized ego. The situation he found himself in is unfortunate. But the sooner he can get his status in the country normalized and return to being a private resident, the better it will be for him. That is unless it is his intention to become a part of the political landscape or activist movement in the country.

Fred Smith is a Bahamian. His daddy is Bahamian but his mother was Haitian. At one point the Fred Smith family lived in Haiti but both his parents were rebel rousers and kept getting in clashes with the government of Haiti. His pa was eventually deported back to the Bahamas and brought the family with him . subsequently the, Fred Smith grew into existence in the Bahamas. So no he cannot be (legally) deported to Haiti

Meanwhile everyone is focused on Jeans Rony, the dump fire and taxi drivers allegedly using their cabs for toilets. Congratulations!

John says...

The problem with a/c’s is not that they don’t work but they are overwhelmed by the humanity and direct sunlight in the summer. Also the fact that there may be three, four five people in the vehicle and the vehicle is mostly stationary and usually traveling less than 30 m p h. And since the laws do not allow for dark tints the other option is to have an auxiliary fan installed on the Ac that stays on when the car is idle or moving at slow speeds. As for the person who made the report about the taxi drivers: they claim that no toilet facilities are made available to them because ‘technically no one is allowed on the dock at night.’try opening a business that engages hundreds of persons on a daily basis and not providing toilet facilities! In fact the new handicap laws require that any business operating onf levels other than the ground floor must provide an elevator for the handicapped. Can you imagine the expense this is for small and midsize businesses? And to maintain an elevator when they may have less than a handful of handicapped customers a year. But no toilet facilities for hundreds of cabbies?

With all the distractions with the Rony matter and taxi drivers using their vehicles for toilets (smh) maybe the attention will be focused now on this dump fire and a long term solution. Also whatever happened to the 30 suspects that were arrested under the drama of low flying helicopters, dazzling lights, arc bikes dozens of police cars and an entire community being awakened and many harassed at 5 a.m. How many persons have been charged thus far? How many have been released? And as the police spokesman said ‘these are only some of the resources we have.” Records will show when the police become hostile towards a community and appears to be overly aggressive, crime increases. The general population tends to stay silent against the criminals rather than supporting the police.

This really doesn’t even sound like sense. Who would take a dump in their vehicle or urinate and keep it in their car overnight? Slow news day or hidden agenda?
