Who remembers the Enron scandal. Did anyone ever go to jail? The president of Enron got a 24 year sentence but died of a heart attack before he went to jail. Some say it was assisted suicide.
See so what started out as a black vs white struggling has now evolved into the workers vs the elite. Meaning that a large portion of the white race is now being excluded from enjoying the Economic pie. Not only in America but globally. So the financial traps that were set to keep black people poor are now being rebaited to keep certain classes of white folk and other ethnicities excluded. Bill Gates is no longer the richest man on the planet but the CEO of Amazon is after the stock price of his company hit the $1,000.00 mark. Then what is bitcoin? Basically an imaginary currency that was created on the internet and is now trading higher than the stocks of some of the worlds most successful companies. But what exactly do you own when you own bitcoins? And Amazon is set out to gobble up and/or destroy all the major companies that are in competition with it. In addition it is seeking to own all the companies that are ancillary to its core business. This includes courier companies, credit cards, Air cargo companies. And the effect is so great not only on American economy but gl so much so economists are calling it the Amazon effect. A few years ago regulators would not allow a company to get this big and so powerful so soon. They made the Bell Phone Company split up and divide itself into smaller companies. And yet you say Bahamians can’t own and manage hotels.
Bahamians can even purchase the property and get a franchise to brand and operate the hotel they will own the property and still get profits from the operations
In other words let Bahamians continue to do slave labor. Let the international players carry the whole cow while Bahamians fight over the head and the tail. Y’all sound so silly.
The effects of the additional hirings at Bah Mar and an anticipated robust tourism winter season is expected to be felt at least by March. Unemployment figures in New Providence are definitely down especially with the hires in the retail sector for the holiday season. Whenever it does government must move cautiously with labor laws and labor reform. These have the most significant impact on the small and medium businesses. For example additional increases in the minimum wage can force some businesses to close down. An increase can also make some workers unemployable since employers will seek more skilled and educated workers for higher wages. Likewise more skilled and educated workers will take jobs they would usually pass up simply because it pays more. And as government seeks to increase the burden on redundancy on employers they may retaliate by limiting the time a worker is allowed to stay on a job.
I think it is a great move. Especially since the banks have started charging conversion rates on credit cards. And especially since everything at RBC has to be done online come 2018. If you own a business that generates a lot of US. Why put it in the bank on par with the Bahamian dollar, but when you draw US dollars you lose 1.25 cents on every dollar. The business can now deposit the money into their US account and pay their bills in US dollars. Bahamians involved in trade with companies like Amazon and Alibaba can also have funds deposited in the trade currency and not lose on the conversion. And of course this relaxation in regulations will have its negative drawbacks and make the work of the Central Bank more taxing.
This would have been a really historical event if this was a group of bahamians signing on this agreement. The time has come for bahamians to take control on our economy and stop pandering to some boogeyman in the closet. There are multimillionaires in this country and manywith a wealth of business experience. Time for Bahamians to get their fair share of the tourism pie and keep the wealth at home.
Holiday sales have been disappointing thus far this year. Many say sales are below last year when the country was recovering from hurricane. And Bahamian consumers have become wiser and prudent. Very few are buying the high price phones and jewelry this year. And the vendors on R. M. bailey park will need nothing short of a miracle or a lot of storage space until next Christmas. But things should turn around in February as the trickle down effects of full employment at Bah mar and a robust winter tourist season takes place. Also the threat to illegals to "GET OUT" also affected Christmas sales because many of them who are illegal or uncertain of their status are holding on to their money.
When Barak Obama left office unemployment in the US was at 4.3%. In Economic terms this is considered full employment. So the huge tax cuts by Donald Trump is clearly unnecessary. Especially since he is also anti -Immigrants. It is clear that he is catering to a small and filthy rich subset of the Americans population. So. What will be the price of his actions?
