Brace Davis is not known for that type of behavior or personality (looping off people's heads). But not to forget Toogie and BoBo. And not to forget what happened to at least one of the criminals who robbed the Davis homestead.
Then of you have several high profile PLPs having to do battle in court against criminal charges. Who else name is going to get called and how much fallout will affect people like Brave. Was he doing his job and being effective as deputy leader and allowing this to go on and still say his hands are clean and his conscience clear?
The success of Brave Davis will be determined by several factors: (1) Has Perry Christie left active politics for good or is he only trying to catch his breath and recover from the severe cut hip he caused on the PLP in May. Christie if he comes back and meddles, can make it a rough and rocky road for Brave Davis. (2) What are the young people going to do. Some want all the leaders of the Chrisite era wiped out and gone. That means they will not support Davis or Glenys-Hanna Martin for leader. (3) Where will the financial support for the PLP come from? With all the revealations about how corrupt the PLP was and how much they mismanaged this country and how many millios of the people's money was mismanaged or went missing, who, with common sense, will finance the PLP?
Basically the IMF is telling toe government to cut its employees by about five thousand. To do that in a time when unemployment is still in double digits will be suicidal to any government. So what are the options: Well the government can stimulate the economy to get it moving and growing. If it can get the private sector to absorb 2000-3000 of these workers with a significant growth in the economy they there may be no need to get rid of the remaining workers. but the economic growth must be sustainable. And with so much of the world economy in turmoil how doable is it? Growing the food and manufacturing (production) sectors may be one key. And exporting workers where necessary (to storm ravaged areas) may be another.
Any good news? As you know Perry Christie still holds power over many PLP delegates. And since he always blocked Brave Davis becoming leader, this will be an interesting fight. Especially since many of the younger PLPs feels the party should get rid of all those in the Christie/Davis era and start afresh.
When a hurricane hits, it usually does damage to the ones least prepared, even though, in some instances, property that seem to be most secured, received the most damage. And so it was with the DNA when the giant hurricane force of Bahamian voters decided that it was time for the PLP to go and , fortunately or unfortunately, the DNA was too, washed away in the tidal surge that wiped the PLP off the political map, at least for now, leaving them only as a fragmented opposition, in shell shock, with no clear direction if any and so embarrassed of the revelations of themselves as a party that governed the Bahamas and led Bahamians into a deep, DEEP abyss of financial financial mismanagement and corruption, even the most strong and die- hard PLP was left with their mouths drooping to their knees, their hands trembling with anger and restraint and their hearts. except for the grace of God, threatening to fail them. OK so yes that is a long sentence. And yes it was by design. (i too have an ego that needs to be fed). Take a deep breath then, inhale and then exhale, relax and use your 20/20 vision (political or otherwise) to see what is still seething still in the the sooth of Election 2017. So Branville has decided to throw in the towel of politics that has been twice bloodied by the overwhelming rejection of the PLP electorate. Some say he was too eloquent (and light skinned) for the PLP and too arrogant, yet charming, for the FNM. So they gave Bran the middle finger and told him in not diplomatic, but clearly Donalt Trump's political language, "CYA." Its not and easy road, and even after Hillary "superpreadtor" Clinton took an even more harsh whipping than Bran, seems still determined to carry on the fight, seeking every opportunity to poke holes in the Trump presidency, still seems willing to carry on the fight and stand up against Trump.. Is Branville looking for sympathy and a warm hearted person to say stay and 'carry on my brother? Despite the high electricity bills and the constant and frequent power outages and interruptions, Bahamians still know how to keep their hearts cold.
We are slowly and sadly learning who holds the power in this country. Slowly, but surely but surely voting is becoming a mere formality. Not only here in the Bahamas but in many jurisdictions around the world
