John says...

Those Who Have Wept

1. Job testified, "Have I not wept for
those in trouble? Has not my soul
grieved for the poor?" (Job 30:25).
Moses and others of the children of
Israel wept over the sin of their
people (Num. 25:6). David testified
as to how he wept and fasted for
God’s people (Psa. 69:10). Isaiah
wept for the need of his people
(Isa. 16:9). God told King Josiah:
"Because your heart was responsive
and you humbled yourself before the
Lord…and because you tore your robes
and wept in My presence, I have
heard you, declares the Lord" (2
Kgs. 22:19).

When Ezra wept for his people, they began to weep and pray also
(Ezra 10:1). Nehemiah "sat down and
wept [for Jerusalem]. For some days
I mourned and fasted and prayed
before the God of heaven" (Neh.
1:4).

Jeremiah was known as the weeping prophet because of the great
prayer burden he carried for his
people. "Since my people are
crushed, I am crushed; I mourn…Oh,
that my head were a spring of water
and my eyes a fountain of tears! I
would weep day and night for...my
people" (Jer. 8:21; 9:1). "If you do
not listen, I will weep in secret
because of your pride; my eyes will
weep bitterly, overflowing with
tears" (13:17). "Let my eyes
overflow with tears night and day
without ceasing; for my virgin
daughter – my people – has suffered
a grievous wound, a crushing blow"
(14:17). "My eyes fail from weeping,
I am in torment within, my heart is
poured out on the ground because my
people are destroyed" (Lam. 2:11).
"Streams of tears flow from my eyes
because my people are destroyed. My
eyes will flow unceasingly, without
relief, until the Lord looks down
from heaven and sees. What I see
brings grief to my soul" (3:48-51).

Paul, the great missionary apostle, was also known for his ministry of tears. "I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart and with many tears" (2 Cor. 2:4). "You know how I lived the whole time I was with you...I served the Lord with great humility and with tears" (Acts 20:18-19). "Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears" (20:31).

This suggestion is like trying to feed a fish who is out of the water. If many of the buildings are empty and others partly occupied and if the stores that are still open are struggling for dear life, how can you even suggest putting more financial burden on them with fines and stricter regulations? this is worse than beating a dead horse trying to get him to run. The effort to revive Bay Street must be concerted and must have some financial benefits to property owners before you can even consider enforcing stricter codes and levying fines and penalties. Some financial relief to them even.

Banker you need to go back for training. You are blowing your cover by acting so concerned, citizen!

The power shortages in New Providence is a man made problem. It's a situation where while consumers were overpaying for a service, the company was still being run into the ground. Monies were being frittered away while the equipment was allowed to grow old and become antiquated. The fix for BEC/BPL is expensive but not undoeable. We heat the talking but no one seems to be doing the walking. So we continue to pay high bills and still sweat our a$$es off. How cute!

While government moving its offices downtown may help fill empty buildings, unfortunately it will not revive downtown. Like many inner cities around the world, Downtown Nassau has died due to high traffic, lack of parking and the fact that local Bahamians seldom venture down there because they are stopped, searched and sometimes forced off Bay Street by the police. When this first begun almost two decades ago, local downtown merchants were in favor of keeping local Bahamians off Bay Street and making the area near exclusively for tourist. Only afterwards did they realize the amount of money Bahamians spent in stores downtown on jewelery and perfumes and even in the local restaurants. The "T shirt buying and straw market shopping cruise ship passengers could not sustain Bay Street. What Miami is doing is transforming its downtown and building it around it's cruise port, the sports arena and a new culture and performance arts center. many of the old hotel buildings and store fronts have been torn down or transformed into living spaces for persons coming to sporting games, for the performing arts and culture center and persons coming to the city to get on a cruise ship. the Bayfront center still offers shopping and dining and the numerous offices located downtown keeps the area active during the day the key to reviving downtown Nassau will be to increase foot traffic, by increasing living spaces. decrease the number of store fronts, add variety to the shopping and dining experience and add some culture and entertainment

It is difficult enough to do business in this country and when there is a hand out around every corner you turn, many businesses end up going under before they even get up and running. As they say in Economics, "Bad money chases away good money." And in the past there have been elected officials that have passed laws they themselves didn't intend to keep. So mr. Minnis, keep your hands clean and make sure, "It's the people's time, at least for the next five years!" Empower your own people.

How many agents did China execute?

John says...

While this should be a major concern to every single Bahamian, what should be of even more concern is that the detection rate for murders is declining. It simply means that more persons who are committing murder are getting away with it.
