FIVE of the rebel seven are apparently negotiating their way back to the FNM. It is also rumoured that Brent Symnonette may run in the election. A wise Hubert Minnis will make Brent deputy leader so that he can garnish the support of those with finances to back the party. It will also distance Loretta Butler-Turner from getting close to Hubert Minnis to goose him again about the leadership. And if the FNM wins Minnis will not only have someone with DPM experience to be DPM but also a seasoned, career politician. The logistics of getting LBT back to contest her Long Island seat may be difficult, but it may be worth it in the long run. She stands a strong chance of winning and despite her obsession with the leadership post, she is a good and local politician. negotiate
eleven hundred murders in ten years and you still continue to hear that 'it's just a mall group of prolific offenders. And now they are saying that some of the murders are being authorised by inmates in prison. So what steps are being taken to prevent hits from being sent out from prison? Are suspects being isolated from the general population? Are their communications with the outside world being severely restricted? Restricted to being next to none? What is apparent is that persons committing murders not only have no value for life, but they do not fear the consequences for killing someone. Even it it means losing their own lives eventually. Very little can be be done with a person who doesn't fear death and also feels he has little or nothing to live for. Basically he is saying, "You will be doing me a favour by killing me," So then the focus has to be on preventing him from the opportunity to kill. Of course jail will only come after a first offence is committed. So there has to be a focus on changing the mindset of these criminals. Born to kill you might say. And capital punishment in the interim should not be ruled out. The killings are getting more bold and the shootings more multiple. Those in charge should note that the longer it takes to bring these killings to a halt, the more difficult it will be to stop them. Ten years of killing at an increasing rate is already too long.
The fact is while government continues to spend money like two drunken sailors and hire more workers, the economy is continuing to shrink and workers are being let go. Freeport' economy has virtually dried up and investors confidence is at its worst. If this government spends crazy money to get re-elected it will mean one thing for certain. Whichever government is elected will have to raise taxes to cover the deficit. This will put more pressure on the economy and sink the country into deep recession. Not to mention what will happen to the country' credit rating.
The fact is that the country is slipping into another recession without recovering from the one that hit in 2008. The government has sucked too much money out of an already fickle economy vis a vis VAT and the sudden and rapid crackdown on property and other taxes, all at once. This caused a shrinking economy rather than allowing the economy to grow. Donald Trump's economic plan will not make things any better as it may lead to runaway inflation in two to three years. Trump inherited an economy with 4.3% unemployment. He initiated a forceful and immediate crackdown on illegal workers. Those who are not getting deported are leaving voluntarily or stopped working because they are afraid. This will knock at least another point off the unemployment numbers as illegal workers are replaced with legal ones. But Trump also plans to spend $3 Trillion to rebuild America's infrastructure. So where will the workers come from? The worker shortage will drive up the cost of labor. And so will it drive up the prices of goods and services. And because there will be a shortage of workers, the US will either have to import workers or goods and services or both. So this will increase the trade deficit. And while Trump is looking to spend $3 Trillion in tax money there will be no real growth in the economy. The money will have to be borrowed. Will this cause America to go broke?

Unfortunately you cannot count Perry Christie or the PLP out at this stage in the game. Despite their dismal performance as the government and despite having to going into election with the country in turmoil (crime at its highest, murder about to set new records, unemployment higher than it was when they came to office), the greatest advantage the PLP has is that they stand united, even in their failings. The opposition, on the other hand is severely fragmented and invisible to some, at least to the naked eye. The blow Loretta and the Rebel Seven did over the pst several weeks has done severe, almost irreparable damage to the major opposition. So much so that many loyal FNM supporters have taken to the high grounds and threatened not to vote in the election. Hubert Minnis does not have the experience of running a full, nationwide general election campaign. And while Granville McCartney and the DNA, by surviving over the past five years have proven they have sustainability and that they are a force, they are not yet drawing the kind of support necessary to win a general election. So several things must happen: The opposition must join forces and fight this election against the PLP in unison. And they must do it soon and do it in such a way so as to draw the disgruntled voters to come out and vote Or the FNM must bring a strong second man on board (Too late to dump Minnis now). Someone who has people appeal, creditability, ability to draw financial support and some experience both in government and on the campaign trail. This will not only strengthen the FNM's chance of winning, but it will make them more appealing to the DNA to join forces to fight this crucial battle (Brent Symnonette). Not only that but it will ensure that Loretta Buttler-Turner is left out to graze during this lap and not brought in to cause more disharmony and division in the party. Or failing that and she comes back home she will have to sit at the back of the bus, at least for a while, and not interfere or distract the captain. Christie den will have big money riding on this election, They have gerrymandered the constituencies, and they are more desperate to win than a hungry tiger trying not to attack his trainer.
The notion that Bahamians are having too many children is absolutely pure hogwash. Foolishness to the most high. When you travel to the Family Islands, some settlements have barely a handful of people. And the further South you go the seller is the handful. This population control, family planning bullcrap came out of the US where that country has been trying to reduce and control the black population of that country since they were freed from slavery. They tried everything : putting young black men in jails, sending them to war, poisoning their water supply, encouraging poor black women to get their tubes tied, introducing foods and drinks into black communities that would make the males sterile and the women less fertile and even promoting crime and violence and, yes even clod blooded murder through movies and music. And the Bahamas, being a mostly black population, got a lot of what was dished out to blacks in America. This thing that is here now, young men wring against themselves, and killing each other, and now even shooting and possibly killing anyone who happens to be present when they make a driveway of foot attack, this is new to the Bahamas. This is new to Bahamians and to other Caribbean nations, And yes it is even new to black Americans. The fact is black people has endured some of the most harsh, unrelenting and inhumane economic times than hardly any race on the planet. And with the exception of very few incidences they rely turned on each other. There was always endurance, toleration, forgiveness and yes, brotherly love. So who is really being this wave of crime and violence and murder.. Who wants young Bahamian men dead..Dead as door nails? And why? Some statements in posts above gives strong clues.
