In a few short months many Bahamians are going to experience the real cost of living in the Bahamas. This will result when many businesses, who have been evading taxes, now have the adjust their prices to include taxes they were not paying. The businesses that were paying either could not compete or has to sell their goods and services below a reasonable profit margin just to keep their doors open. And it will not stop there. As government cramps down of property owners, some who are already seeking mortgage relief, and force them to pay property taxes, some of which are outrageously high persons will come to realize what the real tax burden in this country is. Some 60 to 75 cents of every dollar the average citizen earns reverts back to the government in some form of tax or license fees or other. So the people will collectively stand up to the government and demand answers. Why are you taking so much from us and the national debt is so high? Why are you taking so much from us and there is still so much corruption in government ? Why are you taking so much from us and you cannot tell us where the Money is going. Vat money included. The government will have to explain how they can find in their conscience to put so much tax burden on its own Bahamian people while it allows foreigners to come here and get so many concessions. Tell the people why you can make agreements with Freeport and Albany and Bah Mar and Atlantis and Ginn and Bimini and the group in West End and the foreign group in Mayaguna giving them tax breaks years into the distant future, while hardly a single similar agreement has been made with any Bahamian investor. And when no answers, correction: And when the RIGHT answers are not forthcoming, the people will riot.
Just hope there are no sacred cows.! As this is what makes it more difficult for the tax complying citizens and businesses. And even for junior tax collectors when they see their bosses and supervisors cutting deals in front of their eyes and containers of goods being released and little or no duty being collected. It is true some stores are already adjusting their prices upward to account for additional taxes and others have downsized or have plans to close because they no longer have a competitive edge when they have to pay additional taxes.
Arming law abiding citizens does not solve the problem of too many illegal guns in the hands of criminals. Furthermore when a country yields to the desire to arm its citizens to protect themselves it sends two messages at least. First it tells citizens that the state no longer has the ability to protect them and therefore they must now protect themselves. Secondly it tells the criminals that a potential victim may probably be armed and if he would still carry out his assault on him he must be prepared to use deadly force. And furthermore, he must be quick to the draw. Arming ordinary citizens at this time is like adding fuel to an already blazing fire. Not denying that there may be some citizens that may have jobs that put them at high risk, and at some may need a permit to carry, the number one priority should be to disarm criminals and get illegal weapons off the streets.
Based on the PM's words that his government created 32,000 jobs since coming to office, the country is now supposed to be experiencing negative unemployment. Added to those private sector jobs he did not create, that means there is more jobs than full employment meaning the 11,000 applicants at Bah Mar are all seeking second jobs. Now back to reality: The unemployment figures are higher than when Christie came to office. Much more higher. Crime and especially murder is more out of control than ever before. In fact more murders has occurred under the watch of Christie, Nottage, Bell and Commissioner Greenslade than any other administration in the history of the Bahamas. Corruption and lack of accountability have Bahamians paying more taxes, carrying a greater tax burden than ever before and yet the country debt is climbing and its ability to pay its bills is diminishing. The government still cannot give a satisfactory explanation as to what it did with your VAT money and Mike Halkitis will probably leave office without his good reputation intact. He openly and deliberately and repeatedly lied to the Bahamian people about what with their VAT money and has clearly earned the title of Lying Halkitis. With all the lies and misrepresentations told about Bah Mar, especially by the prime minister, persons are beginning to suspect that the government poured hundreds of millions of tax money into Bah Mar in attempt to keep the project going. This, of course, was after the meddled in the company's private business and helped kick the original investor/developer to the curb. The country's tourism plant is crumbling and very little has been done to refurbish it or to do additional promotions abroad and draw more tourists to the country. Bah Mar is the biggest farce in the country. A white elephant. A dream delayed. A dream denied. False Hope thus far and a disappointment for many. A nightmare that doesn't seem to want to end. Even though the government has licensed and taxed web shops, they have failed to regulate the industry. Illegal gambling remains a major problem. So much so that the licensed and taxed web shops are complaining that they cannot compete. Some have already closed and others are threatening to go back underground. How long will it be before the building on JFK is completed? The Christie term in government is coming to an end and it is still not complete.
America chose to destroy its economy and export its jobs to Mexico and to China and Japan just because they wanted to destroy the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of working class Black Americans. And so they have made cities like Detroit and St. Louis and Chicago desolate and battlefields for unemployed and desolate Blacks to war and kill each other. While America exported its jobs, The Bahamas government imported workers, thousands of them, while Bahamians sat st home, unemployed, hungry and begging if for only the crumbs of the table and now you don't know why they are angry, and mad and strung out on drugs and anti social and disillusioned and apathetic even to the point they are not registering and will not take part in your society and your election when even the more educated and the more advanced and more fortunate are doing the same thing. Listen now to the latest ranting software Donald Trump, " He didn't realize the mess he was inheriting."
And like Dick Gregory said more than 60 years ago. "When you riding on the back of someone and they don't say nothing you may have a smooth ride. But when you riding on the back of someone and they tell you to get off and you don't get off you are in for a bumpy ride. And when you tell them they that you will not only gonna ride their back (sides) but on the backs of their children and their grand children, they look you squarely in the eye and say, "nigga is you crazy?' Before I let you continue to ride me or on the backs of my children I would rather die first. You already tell the world i was violent and lazy. This is where we at Perry, and Nottage and Greenslade dem; Time to get off the backs of the young people dem and stop denying them a part of the future of this country. Stop giving false promises and denying social and economic opportunities to young men. what you afraid of aye.. America was afraid of Blacks becoming the majority population in the US, that's why they trying to destroy young Black men. Why bahamas are you scared of them advancing? and then you know who the real criminals are.
It is good to see that the minister and the armed forces (police, defence force, prison, etc.,) is taking much needed action to quell and, hopefully, stomp the vexing and destructive incidence of murder and violence in this country. But let me be the first to tell you, Mr. Nottage, Mr. Prime Minister, Mr. commissioner Of Police: If you go into these communities with more force, and more military power and lock down the communities and lock up people and you do not take with you social workers, and spiritual leaders and drug and substance abuse counselors, and jobs and economic opportunities, you will fail! You may stifle the murders for a short while, for just a little bit but when it re-surfaces, it will be much worse. Much worse. , When a baby is crying, you don't go to crib and holla,' Shut Up' and expect him to stop crying. You may startle him at first with your insensitivity, but unless you find out why he is crying you will not fix the problem. it may be a dirty diaper, a diaper rash, gas pain, hunger ou just a need to be held. The problem with many of our leaders in this country, maybe through no fault of their own, is they were schooled and trained in the United Kingdom rather than the USA. The problem we face in this country with guns and drugs and gangs and violence and murder, is a spillover of what is happening in the United States, where there is a race war going on. Black people have been induced with drugs and alcohol and bee further incited to arm themselves and join gangs turn against themselves and kill each other in every major city in the US. They have been denied social and economic opportunities. What we are getting here is a spillover of what is happening over there. We have promised our young men jobs and delivered few, but call our young men lazy, and drug using violent prolific offenders. They see other segments of societies advancing when they were being held back by the invisible glass of discrimination. Only difference here is it is blacks on the backs of other blacks. You have made empty promises to them over and over.
