As was suggested many years ago, government should introduce drivers education in the public schools. Then all students graduating or leaving school in the 12th grade should be required to register to vote. Those who are not yet 18 will have their registrations activated on their 18th birthday. Unfortunately many of the students will be of Haitian decent and/or of foreign parentage and may not qualify to register. The problem is after many young men graduate or finish school, they engage in anti-social behavior and do not participate in things like voter registration or even voting. Maybe some special effort, beyond what is already in place, may be needed to get these young to register. Maybe mobile vans going into neighborhoods and assisting some of them with procuring the documents necessary to register. Unfortunately our society has bred this segment that needs to be babied and nourished, even as grown men. sometimes they just want that added attention.
wonder when the FNM leader gonna ask *The Tribune* to stop using this picture and switch to a more reader friendly one..election soon come..the man has to look more friendly and appealing to the voters dem.
She served the country well! She maintained a high standard. She dispensed justice without fear or favor and, hopefully, she is leaving well trained and qualified persons in place not only to maintain, but to raise the bar.
Well Hillary's crowd also outnumbered Trump's. And here in the Bahamas many persons attend both sets of rallies, and yes some attended the DNA rallies because they wanted to hear their platforms. and the entertainment and free food... And yes some were looking for those 'special' T-shirts and other goodies too. This election is going to be unique because of the low number of registered voters, the number os smaller parties hoping to contest and the apparent unpopularity of the leader of the FNM. (Minnis is no longer the leader of the official opposition and since Lorretta Butler is running as an independent candidate, technically there is no official opposition party. Social media has become very popular and will play a very important role in the upcoming election, be it for the disemination of information, fact checking or the spreading of rumors and creating political mischief....
Sea lice remember many shareholders did not invest in BoB under the PLP. In face BoB was a well managed, well performing, stock increasing, dividend paying and growing institution until it was ravaged and raped by the PLP government.
Usually when a major political party is having a well publicized and televised event such as a national convention, opposition parties would hold smaller events or give press releases so that the nation is not polarized by the convention. The DNA's leader managed to grab one or two headlines as well as other members of his party. And while the FNM's chairman did offer opposition views on the convention, the FNM leader was missing in action.
Government must eliminate the dual economy where foreign own businesses do not pay all the taxes and so Bahamians and bahamian business have to pay more. make erry body pay and reduce the tax burden.
Nottage needs to retire. He is delusional as far as crime is concerned. he was warned about the "shock treatment" program before he implemented. Studies show it causes more harm in the long term and can create more hardened criminals. It has been discontinued in the US and replaced by positive re-enforcement programs. The utterances that the murders in the country (over 500 on his watch since 2012) by Nottage, The COP and others are by a small group of prolific offenders is an unacceptable excuse to allow the murders to continue. How long will they allow 'a small group of prolific offenders' to wreak havoc on this country and continue to kill, almost unabated? How long O Lord, How long?
Imagine that BoB is the only financial institution (retail bank) in the Bahamas that still losing money. Stock prices of all banks have increased except RBC, and BoB is the only bank whose share value has decreased. BoB and RBC are the only two banks not paying their shareholders dividends.
One of the good things you have to give Perry G. Christie and the PLP for is they acted mature and progressive in their admittance to the offices of government of the Bahamas. They met many good and well thought out plans in progress and on the drawing board when they took power. Rather than stop, review and cancel like the former prime minister did, almost single handedly, they continued with these projects and plans. Not only did it make the PLp look good, but it moved the country forward. it saved the tax payer millions and hopefully after Election 2017, the new government will do likewise. Not be like Donald trump whose first official duty was signing an executive order to dismantle ObamaCare without an alternative plan in place and without thought or consideration to the millions of people his actions will leave without health care. The plans of the FNM made the PLP govenment look good.
