Don't they have a company here that rents air conditioning units over short term. Units that can be used while the hospitals units are being operated on and bandaged up.They claim that the problem is getting parts for the malfunctioned units. Also with online shopping, it is possible to locate any part within minutes and have it shipped to the Bahamas within days, so the weeks of no air conditioning for a major health care facility.

So the project is right back to where it was except Sarkis is now out the picture. The Chinese are providing the financing they refused to supply under Sarkis and the China Construction Company, who has been blamed for much of the delays and missed deadlines will complete the project. Now Bahamians want to know who will be the owners/operators of Bah Mar and what concessions were given up to get China Bank and/or the unnamed owners/operators to agree to this deal.
URCA, by its actions has ratified Rodney Moncurs show as one of the most real and most genuine and most informative and most powerful talk shows in the country. It has no specific violations against the show or its host, Rodney Moncur, so now it has embarked on a disgraceful witch hunt to attempt to put a muzzle on freedom of speech in this country. unfortunately, for URCA, they may have chosen to whip the wrong horse in this race because by singling out the show, they have exposed the wide audience and international support the show has and as does its host. One can learn more about the history, especially politics of the Bahamas, by listening to one of Moncur's shows than most of the other shows put together. The people will not let URCA have its way with this one. there's no turning back. URCA needs to censor some of the vulgar sexually explicit and violence and murder inciting even, music some of the radio stations play all day and start regulating that. Rodney may be loud, and colorful and even crazy at times, but he is genuine and Bahamians will not allow him to be silenced. Someone said he was trying to play talk show host so he invited them to be a contestant an an ugly man contest...same t'ing. Let freedom march!
> > "If he wins the leadership race, Mr Sears said yesterday that he would > allow Mr Christie to continue on as > prime minister and complete the > mammoth tasks the country now faces, > as he pointed to the Bah Mar > situation." .
Most of the problems (mammoth in nature, Bah Mar, crime, credit rating cuts, social unrest, lost in investor confidence, very hard economic times, especially for young Bahamian males, some who turn to crime, failed referendum, double taxation under the guise of tax reformation, false promises, especially to the inner cities and Family Islands like Eleuthera, were created by the Christie administration. Christie, in his third term as prime minister has failed to bring relief or assistance to the people of Eleuthera. And he was a part of the administration that dismantled the farms and canning factories in this island and aggressively chased the foreign investors out of the island. Investors who used their own money and had this (Eleuthera) islands' infrastructure years ahead of the rest of the Bahamas. Hatchet bay farms, canning factories, storm He trying to fix what he broke. Freeport would be a joke today to where Eleuthera would be if the PLP and including Perry Christie did not do what they did to that island. Barak Obama in the main time, is chilling and holding the fort and keeping things steady until February 2017, whilst Perry Christie is begging (did I say begging) for another term to fix the things he didn't fix (or he dismantled or simply just let fall apart) or to finish build his legacy. Shall we then speak about the farm in Andros?
Does this also mean that government will discontinue its effort to pass a law prosecuting employers who terminate employees before notifying the government first/ How they now come to realize how much they were intruding on the freedoms and rights of employees without realizing that, at the end of the day employers hold the key to their businesses and will have the last say? Even if it means, in the case of foreign owned businesses, that they pack up and move away. The fact is that is is always a sad and distressing occasion for anyone to lose their job. (we see what is the regular outcome in the US when disgruntled workers get fired). But i The government has put National Insurance in place as a safety net for when this happens. Unions should be the ones fighting for their workers and not the government . At least not to the extent of taking workers to court. Both the government and the unions most come to realize that long term job security in the tourism industry is no longer a given. Employers are willing to sacrifice long term, hard working dedicated workers for more youthful, energized and active ones. So now its government and the unions' prerogative to fight for more worker benefits in the short term and also to ensure that more worker insurance benefits are garnered in the short term. Not to fight the employer in court after the fact. Yes eventually another problem will develop where many persons in their 40's and 50's find themselves unemployed and unemployable in the hotel/tourism industry. But if the tourism product demands more youthful employees, the question then is how to fix that.
In the US a family can have a three bedroom two bath house or apartment fully ariconditioned, electronic gates and garage doors, the biggest flat screen tv's and other electronic devices and their electric bill would not be more than $100 a month. The same home or apartment in the Bahamas would run $400-$600 a month. The family in the US house will be fully air conditioned and cooled 24/7. The family in the Bahamas will only have a/c on in the bedrooms at night or other parts of the house when occupied. Light bill is 4-6 times what it is in the US. When you drive up to the gas pump here you are paying $4.29 for a gallon of gas. In the US gas is under $2.20 a gallon. When gas went down in the US by 20 cents, it went UP here by 30 cents plus. And because the grade of gas sold here is lower than the US your consumption can be twice as high. Bottom line: the real price of gas in this country is $7 - $8 a gallon. When you go in the food store it will take $300 - $400 to buy the same amount of groceries $100 can buy in the US and if you purchase a new vehicle the price is sometimes double that of the US price. Putting all the differences aside that the US is a producing nation the bottom line is that most of the excesses in prices are due to taxes. Taxes that go to an inefficient government, a non -accounting government and a government that was proven to be corrupt. Yet when foreign companies come here to operate they are given exemptions to the same taxes Bahamians are expected to pay and given concessions on top of that. So while the foreign company can realize profits, bag them up and take them back to their home country, the Bahamian company has to pay more than their fair share of taxes and can barely see a profit, if any. The Bahamian consumer is then saddled with unusually high prices and therefore cannot enjoy the same standard of living his counterpart can enjoy in other parts of the world. An unusually high number of poor or impoverished citizens is created who become dependent on the government. Because of the level of dissatisfaction and hopeless created in society because of economic discrimination and exclusion crime increases. A level of crime that only the elite can escape. The country becomes lawless.
