happy independence!!! This had to have been one of the most peaceful holidays the bahamas has experienced in a long time and one of the quietest Independence the Bahamas has had in many years. While official celebrations were ccaled back, persons, even young men seem to have a more somber attitude, a renewed peace of mind. A true sense of pride and patriotism. They did their country proud this weekend. Bahamians and visitors attended the celebration events with very little incidents of aggressive behavior or violence and many went to the beaches because of the extreme heat and others just chilled out at home. Most importantly noticeable was the change in attitude of many of the young men. Even though some attended the events and the beaches in large numbers they seem more social and tolerant rather than gang oriented and rowdy. And this is not by chance. Young school age teens seem to have developed a new sense of Bahamian pride and appears to be steering away from the habits of gangs and violence of the generations that preceded them. The Bahamas you deserve to be proud of how you celebrated your 43rd anniversary of Independence. Lift up your head to the rising sun, Bahamaland. Til the road you trod leads on to your God, March on Bahamaland!

Tal I know your posts are most difficult to read and mostly confusing, but how can you ever deduce that I am a supporter of Loretta Butler or even the FNM party? The ballot is still secret as far as I know. Stop painting other people with your political brush(es).

Well if you know history of politics on the Bahamas, you would know that when the PLP is in power, very few persons participate in opposition politics until the ***silly season*** because of the fear of victimization. Unfortunately the threat is real and in these tough economic times, persons cannot risk losing their jobs, having their electricity turned off, their loans called in and even their children fired. But as election draws closer more people will come out and support their parties. Also some don't want to be drawn into this leadership issue again because they thought it was settled. And some media are reporting that one faction of the FNM is willing to victimize other FNM's to gain or maintain control of leadership of the party. So many FNM's choose to remain neutral or absent at this juncture.

If you take time to notice that they also did not publish the name of the persons arrested. Our law states that a persons name should not be published until they are formally charged before the courts. So when this happens the names of the persons charged with the illegal weapons will be published and also the name of the resort.

Well the UK lost its AA rating in what seems like minutes after its successful referendum to withdraw from the European Union (after having it for 58 years) and Jamaica is facing further threats of downgrade after it was talking about leaving CariCom. Can anyone explain why when you use a credit card online or in some US stores they ask if you are paying in US or Bahamian dollars. The prices in Bahamian is like $1.03 on the US $1.00 But yet when you get your credit card statement the bank still charges you conversion on all foreign purchases So you end up losing like 4-6 cents on every dollar spent overseas.

Maybe Social Services or some other agency also need to investigate and assist the number of homeless persons that frequent the West Bay Street strip between the two food stores out there. Many of them have moved to that area because they feel safer than being in the city area but some of them may need food, mental health care and other assistance.

The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) is an economic indicator issued daily by the London-based Baltic Exchange. Not restricted to Baltic Sea countries, the index provides "an assessment" of the price of moving the major raw materials by sea.[1] Taking in 23 shipping routes measured on a timecharter basis, the index covers Handysize, Supramax, Panamax, and Capesize dry bulk carriers carrying a range of commodities including coal, iron ore and grain."[2 wikpedia.
