No one can deny that Nassau/New Providence has its share of problems and the number of murders and serious crime is of concern to everyone. BUT one must ask if this man is being fair and/or his comments are just an attack on the Bahamas tourist product. Yes, there have been 105 murders this year but only two or three were non Bahamians. And some six million tourist come here each year and only a very small number experience a crime situation. To put the situation into context, you must compare Nassau with destinations like Disney World or Six Flags and see how many visitors to those attractions are injured or robbed or experience some other situation. Tourists are among the safest people in the country. White women are the most safest followed by white men. And exit interviews with younger tourists confirm that they come to the Bahamas and the Caribbean, "for pot and for sex." And since pot or weed has become more accepted in the US and Canada, where most tourist come from, they don't expect to get a hefty fine or jail time for, 'a lil bit of pot on da island" Neither do they not expect to find any when they come but if anyone is in the port blatantly offering drugs to tourists they should be removed and severely dealt with. For the Most part Nassau is as clean and as well kept as most Caribbean destinations, in the tourist area, even though more can be done to disguise the vacant and dilapidated buildings. The marines carrying automatic weapons at the port is more to do with potential terrorism attacks rather than personal security and if this man is a lawyer he should understand this. But many still question why local police still carry automatic weapons while making a traffic stop or at some cultural event. Even when Bahamians go to the Arawak Port to collect fright, they are subjected to US rules and regulations for the very same reason.

What happened to the multimillion dollar surveillance system that was supposedly being installed by a prominent PLP? Why is it not up and running yet after how many years? Just like there was supposed to be an increase in courts dealing with murder and other serious criminal matters. To put more restrictions on the general public as to their rights to assemble and their freedom of movement can only be done at the benefit of the criminal element. Need to dig to the root of crime and cut it out

Another murder less than an hour ago. The punishment must be made to suit the crime. Unfortunately many of these young men who are killing do not even fear death. They feel it is better to go out in a hail of bullets than allow someone to "dis" you.

Minimum wage is really for someone starting out in the job market. Usually they still live at home and their paycheck is for their personal expenses. What is really sad is when you see a single mother with two, three, four children, applying for a job that pays minimum wage and she have to pay someone to keep the children while she is working. Then another situation is when someone has been in the job field for five, six, seven years and they also applying for a job that pays minimum wage. Their reason is they cannot find anything else to do and they could at least buy food with minimum wage.

In the main time local businesses and employees alike, are starting to feel the effects of the new minimum wage law. One major building store has put all its line staff on reduced days. Some persons are working 3 day a week and others four. A lumber company as cut its sales and delivery staff from 25 to 20. Someone who worked there says he was making $175.00 a week. He said that he use to make $20-$30 a day in tips so that was an additional $100.00 average he was taking home. Since he was one of the last hired, Saturday was his last day. Now he has no income. Fast food chains are also adjusting their line staff and considering some price increases to make up for the increase in labor costs. One chicken franchise, that is already struggling because its staff is well unionized cannot afford to increase its prices and will have no choice but to reduce staff. A local contractor says he use to take boys straight out of high school and pay them $175 a week as unskilled workers. "once they learn something, they become semi-skill and go anywhere from $200-$250 a week and continue to raise up. Now I can't hire some one I gatta train and pay them $210.00 a week because that mean I gatta raise my semi skill worker too. A straw vendor says she have a girl that would come in three or four days a week and work the stall while she do other things. Sometimes she make $200 in sales and sometimes she doesn't make anything. So now she have to reduce the days she come in, even though the girl is her grand daughter, or make other arrangements,

Young men are known for their strength, older men with grey hairs are known for their wisdom. Since God is older than all of us and has wisdom and strength we should not push those with grey heads aside for the quick fingers and strong backs, until their time is done.

The current rate of murder still poses the country to have a record breaking 148 murders this year! The question are: Is the detection rate and the conviction rate keeping pace with the murder rate.

p r o g r e s s even at a snails pace is progress. But automation needs proper management. Most times you go for your driver's license an they tell you the 'printer ainn working", or 'ad person who is do the license ain't ta work today". so you have to make several trips before you get straight. But most government online sites seems to be operating fairly good. Will mankind eventually live on the computer with no interpersonal interaction...just saying

Lets assume that the (PLP) government takes possession of Bah Mar and construction resumes next month. This would create immediate jobs and put Bah Mar in position to be opened late winter-early spring next year (2016). Assuming all goes right some 2,500 jobs will be secured and with the carnival many of these rooms will be occupied in early 2017. The web shops will have been formally regulated and the cost of electricity will have been reduced by 40%. The Sheraton project (construction) should be in full swing and nearing completion. For all intents and purposes the Bahamian economy will appear to be in a mini-boom. Employment will be down and since crime trails unemployment, that too, will be down. It will be most difficult for a split of fractured opposition to win against the PLP. It may be even more difficult to convince Bran McCartney to disband his party, in which he has made considerable investment, tangible and otherwise, and re-join the FNM. Of course the world economy may have also slipped into another recession by then. Macy's has announced that they are closing 500 (yes five hundred) US stores next year and will be testing a discount outlet format and while many expect gas prices to drop to $2.00 by Christmas in the US consumer spending has been flat. With the hundreds of thousands of persons being displaced in the Middle East due to (Syria, Iraq, Iran) and seeking refuge in Europe this will also have an impact on the world economy and the price of oil. Then there is Donald Trump(et) who is causing panic with his bid for the US presidency. Some have even likened this man to Adolf Hitler.

The question is will Munroe bring creditability to the PLP by joining the party or will he (eventually) lose his own credibility? Most persons that jump on a ship in peril go down with it because they don't realize the state the ship is in until they get on board. By then all the lifeboats were boarded and everyone who had a chance jumped ship. But yet others manage to survive and even save the sinking ship.
