Whenever you talk about the crime problem, murder especially, everyone seems to get sensitive and extremely defensive. But the facts are the facts and this country is well on its way to setting a new murder record this year. And while saturation patrols and increased police manpower tends to reduce other crimes like robbery, housebreaking, vehicle theft etc., it seems that it doesn't help in reducing the murders in this country. The fact is that many of the murders today are well planned and long meditated. The killers are determined to get their target and their sole intention is to leave him dead. The fact that some murder victims spend, three, four even five years in jail but the minute they set foot back on the street, they are killed, tends to say,' that's how long their killer been waiting for them." That is how much they were determined to have that person dead. That is a serious thing right there. That is not a lack of conflict resolution, it is more serious than that, warfare even. So maybe it is time for the police to bring in sociologists or criminologists to create profiles of not only the killers but also the victims of murder. How do you change that mindset and that erase that level of determination to have someone dead? We must remember to, in the quest for a solution to the murder problem, that it is not only happening here in the Bahamas, but it is a worldwide problem. And many of the killings are similar to what is happening here. Persons are being hunted down and assininated. Just recently President Obama, said the number of murders and killings happening in America today is much too much for a modern society. SO what went wrong? In the Bahamas we know that most of the murders still happen in the Bain and Grants Town and Nassau Village and Pinewood areas. Most of the victims are still male between the ages of 17 and 30 years. (This is something that needs investigation because if the murders were due to rifts and conflicts between certain individuals, the age of murderers and victims should increase, so this tends to indicate some gang activity). Many of the victims have previous criminal activity and/or are connected with drugs or gang activity. A number persons who are accused of murder either go on to commit additional murders and/or they themselves become victims of a killer. Most murders are by shooting. .

Many people do not see Greece climbing out of its $263 trillion debt, at least not any time soon. Many expect the currency to devalue and hence the run on banks. Some people feel that it is safer to sink their money into other assets like jewelry gold coins or antiques that they feel will not lose value if banks fail or the money is devalued

Strangely enough there was a report on BBC world news today that says there are people who target projects like Bah Mar and weak economies around the world. They create discourse or situations that cause the project to get into problems or to fall. Then they move in and try to buy in for pennies on the dollar. Then they sell for two or three times what they paid. This is happening now in Greece where many people are in a panic and willing to sell their holdings at half the value. Panic is also setting in China stocks, many of which fell by 30% in value overnight. The government had to step in and "put control" on the stock market.

Our courts are filled with some of the same people Izmirilin felt he needed to protect his investment against based on his public outbursts on the matter

The Chinese economy is in a slump and definitely headed for a recession. Stocks on the Chinese market have fallen by 30% in just one month and has caused so much concern that persons who own more than 5% of the shares of any company are urged not to trade their stocks for the next six months. Both imports and exports are down significantly to China and is causing concern to the government. Remember when the rest of the world was in recession China had a booming economy. Maybe it's their turn now.

Perry should take Hubert Ingraham with him on this one. Once he roll them eyes over his glasses at them Chinese and Sarkis Izmirilin, Bah Mar will be open next week. Take Hubert Minnis,Brave Davis and Branville for the teaching moment. Hubert will tell them"get the buildings finished and get Bah Mar open else all y'all carry ya arses (out the Bahamas). Real talk! The waiting game is over.

While VAT may create some activity that looks good in the short run, James smith knows a country cannot tax itself to prosperity. There must be some real economic growth else taxes will canabalise the money supply and cause all economic activity to dry up. Businesses that pay taxes will see their own incomes and activities decrease if there is no growth and eventually their demise.

John says...

Minnis should have gone to the press conference and requested an inventory list of all foreign investors whose projects have failed or stalled, for whatever reasons, and the investors continue to hold on to Bahamian people's land or continue to enjoy concessions offered by this country.

Ok so if government assumes ownership of Bah Mar what all has to be done? It will also have to assume the loan to China Bank, resolve the issues with China Construction Company, pay off all other debtors, re negotiate leases with all tenants leasing the properties, assume operation of Bah Mar section and Amelia and manage and maintain the entire property right? The Bahamas Government will the also be subject to lawsuits stemming from the late completion of the project coming from guests, tenants, suppliers, and anyone and all who are aggrieved by the late completion of the project right? And because it is now public knowledge that there is shoddy and sub standard work on the project this may expose the "operators " to even more litigation. Is the government ready for the task?
