Firstly I have had more than one family member killed in the last few years in the carnage of violence we have in this country. And yes, while two of the murders remain unsolved there were lots of talks on the streets as to what may have been the motive. The police ruled all of them out. I know my timing on this may have been wrong but if you examine the man's shirt closely it has every type of assault weapon on it. How it got pass the Tribune's editors is a good question. But if you and others think it is ok then "The Tribune" can remove my post. Unless we are willing to change our behavior then we will keep getting the same result.
“We are looking at it and the question is what can Bay Street become in the **new order of the world.”** WHAT did he say about "*new world order*?" Obviously to eliminate traffic from Bay Street would also mean eliminating Bahamians (eventually or selectively). This was tried in the 1990's when the two malls opened and selected Bahamians were no longer welcome on Bay Street. This move was encouraged b many store owners who viewed young Bahamians as a nuisance. They did not realize how much these 'nuisances' contributed to their own businesses until the recession hit and the tourists stop coming. Now downtown is a virtual ghost town.
But look at the shirt the "family member' is wearing. We need to be careful what message we send even by the way we dress. Check half the clothing young people are wearing, they are filled with skulls and crosses partly quoted or misquoted scriptures and yes guns. Young men go clubbing or partying dressed in shirts with full sized skeletons that illuminate in the dark. These are designed to send subliminal messages. Other patrons or persons at the party spend two, three four hours looking at an illuminated skeleton, (glorifying death) then the next thing you hear shots ringing out and someone is dead.
The USA, Canada, UK, China, Japan all realize the value of having intelligent and educated people among their population, unlike the Bahamas and many other smaller nations that tend to drive away the smartest and the brightest, for selfish and usually politically driven motives. When someone shows up at their border with a degree, bachelors, masters, doctors, they view it as a valuable asset that will not only strengthen their country, but one that will weaken the country the person is coming from. What is going to make it worse for the Bahamas is that government can no longer guarantee the security of its citizens or provide basic essentials on a continuous level (electricity, phone service water etc.) But lets give credit the cell service has increased 1,000 percent as it relates to dropped calls, as Mr. Leon Williams promised it would. But even those who may be willing to come home and avoid the political fray or compromise the lack of infrastructure, will not want to come to an environment that is not secure and put the lives of their family and themselves in danger. And then the tax in this country has to be more than any developed country. Many of us are not aware because a lot of taxes are hidden. Have you examined your B.E.C bill lately, for example? The fuel surcharge is more than double what the consumption/usage is. How could this be? The fuel surcharge is suppose to be an amount added after the price of fuel increases beyond a certain amount. Fuel prices have been relatively stable over the past five years and are now on the way down. So how is the fuel surcharge is 4/5ths of your electrical bill? This would mean hat fuel has increased 400 times above what the standard price was set at!!! The average homeowner can run his house full time on a diesel or LPG generator for less than what he is paying for fuel surcharge alone. Imagine when VAT kicks in.
As I have stated in blogs thousands of times, many of us get angry and feel pain when things like this happen. When someone is murdered, there is a robbery a home invasion or a rape. Then we cry out about the government and we cuss the police and play the blame game. My point is that a person does not jump from an infant to a 21 year old with a gun to kill or rob someone overnight. It takes 21 years for him to get to that stage (or 18 or 19 or however old he is when he turns to crime). We (this country) have gone through forty years of increasing crime and violence, where now, we are even at the point of brother against brother and father against son. We are losing over 100 young men every year for almost 10 years, and now we have become so helpless, we start to look in their lifestyles to blame them for getting killed. We need to start looking at the persons who are raising these children to turn into cold blooded, stone hearted murderers and the environment they grow up in. That is what needs to change first. This country needs to stop breeding and nurturing killers and criminals. Focus on the parents and family who supply them with these killer-training video games and violent and crime filled movies and allow their children minds to be channeled and programmed to become gangsters and criminals and murderers. And they watch them play it and think its so cute. Why should a 6 year old child be playing a video game that allows him to gun down local citizens and rewards him for killing cops? That's why so many killers in this country have no feelings or emotion about taking lives. They were trained to do it from they were a child.
What could someone have in their home that is so valuable you are willing to burst their doors down and confront them for it. KILL them even. Usually when robbers are met with even a slight bit of resistance they would leave and try find another victim not wanting to confront the police. When it gets to this level of bold and violent crime, law abiding citizens will lose the motivation to get up and go to work anymore.
The sad thing is when an innocent homeowner is armed he would try to give a warning before firing off a shot. But armed intruders do not have that type of consideration. They will shoot at first opportunity. Also Mr. Cartwright may have had in his mind that the men may have been police officers. That gave the intruders the advantage and they proved to be raw born, cold hearted, blood thirsty killers.
Don't blame the Chinese for being smart and investing around the globe. Blame us (Bahamians) for not taking advantage of opportunities and investing in our own people. Diversification ma boy!
